Rename article[edit]

I suggest renaming this article to Clarion (workshop), as "Clarion Workshop" isn't its name and it's never referred to that way--it's either "Clarion" or "the Clarion science fiction and fantasy writers workshop". Elf | Talk 19:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC) ('98 Clarion West graduate)[reply]

List/Category of Notable Clarion Graduates[edit]

I agree, and have put in quite a number that I have found. More would definitely be an improvement, and they really should have details about which Clarion they attended -- that is, Clarion, Clarion West, or Clarion South, and which year. Artemis-Arethusa 18:29, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How would people feel about only including people in this list that have their own Wikipedia articles? Plenty of people go to the workshop and never become notable. Including them just makes the list longer than it should be. Rnb (talk) 14:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Amy Sterling Casil[edit]

I'm doing my Clarion Write-A-Thon page and I wanted to give some new information, but do not feel comfortable enough or like it's appropriate to edit this myself. In your list, you're leaving out Vonda N. McIntyre 1970, and the information that she got Robin Wilson's permission to start Clarion West the next year. Octavia Butler was not the only notable 1970 graduate in addition to Vonda. It was a mind-blowing year and I think also included Ed Bryant and Stan Robinson Kim Stanley Robinson. I know there are more. I have an anthology they published from the 1970 class members and almost all are by people that went on to have influential careers. I am a 1984 graduate and the notable graduate of that year is Kathe Koja who I've recently reconnected with. You might want to upgrade her Wikipedia. She has a lot more publications than are listed. Who is Jean Sullivan?[edit]

I removed Jean Sullivan (Clarion, 1968 1970) from the list of graduates because it links to an actress/dancer/musician who seems to have no science fiction ties. A search of wikipedia found nobody of that name with keywords author, writer, or science fiction. Should probably reduce this page's long list of names[edit]

... Especially now that there are pages for the List of Clarion Writers Workshop Instructors and List of Clarion Writers Workshop Alumni. That way, most of the people involved with the workshop can be placed there, and this page can focus on the workshop itself with a few examples of prominent people. I reduced the lists and added links to the lists own pages. I didn't do a whole lot of thinking about who stayed in the lists on this page, mostly just picking names that I think are particularly notable, and I tried to keep names in one list or the other. If someone thinks another name would be better than some that I chose for either list, I don't particularly mind a switch, but I think about ten names to each list seems like a good number. Improvement[edit]

This page needs improvement to be a proper wiki article. Firstly, it is very light on details. What happens at the workshop? Not necessarily in detail, but an overview of what happens and why it is notable. The Clarion West article has a lot more detail than this (ostensibly parent) article.
