True 0.0.0 N/S?[edit]

I've read that the true Equatorial line actually passes through the nearby Museo Solar Intiñán, which is a few hundred meters north of the Mitad del Mundo monument. True? Demf 18:30, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me. The ometers too far south. Martin Slater (Quito, Ecuador). This may be due to the fact that the datum used (PSAD56) to locate the equator is outdated and incorrect.

The exact location of the equator is somewhat arbitrary, since it depends on a geodetic datum (there is no perfect datum), and in addition the geographic poles of the Earth move very slightly (see Chandler Wobble) so latitude itself is slightly variable. Claims that the Mitad del Mundo monument was built in the "wrong place" are fundamentally mis-guided. Similarly, if you visit the old Royal Observatory at Greenwich in England, you would find that a GPS receiver does not display exactly zero degrees longitude on the line where tourists have their photos taken. This is not an error; it is due to the change in datum which has become standardized by the use of GPS technology and its inclusion in mapping products like Google Earth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.80.110.88 (talk) 21:12, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good day, Everyone.

According to the conventions and parameters that make a good article on Wikipedia, based on the fact that there are 3 places that could be called "Middle of the World" only in Ecuador, not to mention the possible existence of similar monuments in any of the 14 places that crosses the equator line, and the fact that both this article and its English version is still far from the quality parameters that have a good or a featured article, I strongly believe this article should be turned into a disambiguation page, which allows to provide accurate information for each relevant representative archeological/geographical monument located at the equator line in Ecuador, considering the fact that Ecuador and Colombia are the only spanish-talking countries who pass through equator line, but EC is the only one who has relevant monuments.

Due to my experience in Wikipedia is not as extensive, I ask the more experienced librarians and publishers for collaboration and feedback on improving this article. Similarly, to minimize the impact to generate create a disambiguation page pointing to items that have not yet been created, I consider appropriate to create the articles "loose" in respect of each landmark / geographical place, and then link them through the disambiguation page "Half the World".

If anyone has a better idea, solution or addition to what I said before to improve the quality of this article, welcome. But meanwhile, I will proceed to the creation of the following 3 articles referring to relevant Equatorial monuments in Ecuador:

· Monumento Mitad del Mundo, located to the north of Quito, apparently built in honor of the French Geodesic Mission, (not precise but most known).

· Quitsato Sundial, located near Cayambe, (which according to studies, is located at latitude 0°0'0", and measured with modern equipment and with strong precision).

· Archaeological Site of Catequilla: Built by Indians Quitu-Caranqui before Spanish colonization, who is even more precise than 1st, but is the least known of the three.
