Rename[edit]

Suggest this article get renamed to Cif (brand), because most people are looking for something else besides this article. Cif should redirect to disambiguity page. I also doubt this article meets wikipedia notability, wp:notability, guidelines and perhaps should be deleted. Daniel.Cardenas 19:50, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A page Cif should lead to the current CIF indeed. I'd prefer to rename this article to Cif (cleaning product) in line with Ajax (cleaning product) and Vim (cleaning product). There are a whole series of pages about cleaning products and trademarks, which shows interest in the topic. So I would not delete this stub, but rather let it grow. With a bit of restructuring, some nostalgia and marketing background it'll be OK. Emmarade (talk) 06:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, CIF should go to a disambiguation page, not to some brand. I assume this was changed by an overzealous manager at the company. -EJE, June 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.201.35.47 (talk) 15:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UK name[edit]

I removed the following statement (Wiki mark-up: "particularly as 'Cif', spelt 'syph' (but identically pronounced), is slang for syphilis"), which was offered as reason for resistance to calling this product 'Cif' in the UK. 'Syph' may have been common slang in the past, but I don't think it is current. If I'm wrong, and a source can be added, feel free to add-back. --Oldak Quill 17:47, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think more info is needed on the Cif rebrand. The name Jif was dropped in the UK, which I remember caused quite a lot of grumbling and resentment, but not in the Nordic countries. I would imagine the large British market would be more challenging to rebrand than smaller markets like Norway. Vague assertions about 'inventory standardisation' don't really explain what the thinking was at the time, and why it was applied so inconsistently. --Ef80 (talk) 19:43, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
