I've edited this article for spelling and grammar to just make the information that's here make a little more sense. I know very little about the subject matter so I haven't provided any new citations or changed any of the information, even where it seemed dubious. I did replace 'Vodou' with 'Voodoo' where I found it as I felt it was necessary to have a consistent term. If 'Vodou' is more precise it may be a good idea to replace this term- I just think it makes sense to have it be one term all the way through.

The information in this article is largely uncited and fairly rudimentary, it is in dire need of someone who knows what they're talking about.

This article also is purely about Voodoo and Catholicism. It does not delve into the other aspects of Christianity (protestantism), and the Missions movement in Haiti. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.177.40.114 (talk) 19:59, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Vodou' is considered the more 'correct' spelling (inasmuch as it's phonetically the most accurate); other spellings include 'Vodun', 'Vaudou', and (in the Colonial period of American history), 'Vaudoux'. Unfortunately, because of Hollywood, the meaning of 'Voodoo' has become increasingly distorted, and should probably be avoided in favor of one of the other spellings. 24.108.102.4 (talk) 01:19, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The content was previously in the article Christianity in Haiti, where I felt it was it was inappropriate because it talked too much about Voodoo instead of Christianity. Putting it in Haitian Voodoo would not be a bad idea, but again it is important to not make syncretism and talk of one subject instead of the other. ADM (talk) 11:25, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Compromise with vandals?[edit]

I just reverted what I take as vandalism: someone had once again gone through and changed negative statements to positive ( "Voodoo is not Satanism" changed to "Voodoo is Satanism," etc.) and other edits of that type; as well as inserting large poorly edited sections claiming Catholicism, Vodu and worship of the christian "Satan" were all the same thing. I take this as a well intended but poorly informed attempt to proselytize, which is not the purpose of Wikipedia. I believe the editor was conflating two groups they were not part of, with the "bad guys" from their own group. Unfortunately, my research is unfootnoted, unpublished and based upon asking practitioners who self-identify as members of named groups-but it strongly suggests said groups are unrelated. To prevent continual repetition of this same vandalism, perhaps someone might volunteer to address this confusion in a historical context, particularly as it relates to the origins of present synchronism, and lock the page.
