Importance[edit]

I suggest that this cathedral is of medium or low importance to the University of Oxford. Universities do not have cathedrals; only cities have cathedrals. The church of the University is St. Mary's, 3 minutes walk away down the High Street.

Instead, Christchurch Cathedral is the cathedral of the city of Oxford. The fact that city folk do not have automatic access to the cathedral (without a signed letter from their pastor) is neither here nor there. The cathedral is not the university's cathedral. I rated the cathedral article in the context of the articles within the scope of WikiProject University of Oxford, which is not the same as the importance of the cathedral to the university today. I thought that it was notable because it is uniquely not only a cathedral but a college chapel. It is also one of the oldest buildings used by the university. In the context of other articles I think it is borderline high/ mid and am happy to change to mid.81.86.211.166 (talk) 15:01, 10 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hounding of Martyn Percy[edit]

Why is there no mention whatsoever of the hounding of former Dean Percy by a group of Christchurch fellows? Is there some WP:BLP explanation? I'm not familiar with the story, but in a short account of a cathedral with 800 years of history I'm not sure an academic/clerical spat warrants significant mention. Certainly not worth more than a sentence - anything else might be considered WP:UNDUE and certainly WP:RECENTISM. Dave.Dunford (talk) 13:11, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the Charity Commission in its summing against the Christ Church Governing Body reckoned the latter had spent £6.6 million in their vendetta and estimated the loss in donations at £8 million during the 4-year dispute. It seems worthy of mention !
I too had never heard of this affair, and though probably not a fan of his views, him being liberal an' all, I must say he seems to have been extremely badly treated --- not so much as he would have suffered in most era's of Christian disputation --- but certainly in a most ungentlemanly fashion.
