Categories[edit]

Why is this put in a category of pre-emancipation African American history? it does not mention African Americans at all. I know there was intermarriage between Native Americans and African Americans, but there should be some source specifically for adding this category, and content within the article to support it.Parkwells (talk) 01:38, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Classification[edit]

The tribe is classified as extinct - researchers acknowledge there may be individuals with Chowanoke ancestry, but the tribe is not operating as a governmental structure.Parkwells (talk) 01:38, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Precontact content[edit]

There's a large section of material about theoretical precontact Cowanoc history that is cited to :Jack MacGowan, "Carolina Algonkians", Carolina Algonkian Project, 2001-2005 (last update), accessed 22 Apr 2010. It's available in this iteration of the article. The website is self-published and links to a 9th-century tribe to 16th-century tribe who require some strong scholarly support.
