NPOV[edit]

"While Chinook became the world champion, it had never defeated the best checkers player of all time, Tinsley, who was significantly superior to even his closest peer."

On tinsey's page it says it beat him twice lmao —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.217.7.156 (talk) 21:41, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I take the meaning to be that while Chinook won two games in one match, that match was won by Tinsley four games to two. Newwhist (talk) 16:54, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Naming[edit]

I suggest we change it to Chinook (checkers player). That's what its creators call it. DHN 01:00, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

10-piece database[edit]

This article gave a date of 24 May 2004 for the 10-piece database, and the Chinook history page agrees. However, the archive.org records indicate - note the date embedded in the URL - that the correct date was 24 May 2003. I've sent a note to Prof Schaeffer pointing out the likely error. ... and he confirms that 2003 is correct. Jordan Brown (talk) 16:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Never known as "draughts" in Alberta[edit]

I grew up there. As a child, I had heard of the word "draughts", but thought it was some British version of Tic-tac-toe. Now, if this had been invented at the University of Victoria (British Columbia, Canada), "draughts" would be fair game. Bowler hats and walking sticks were commonplace in the patriotic British conclave of Oak Bay through to the late seventies. — MaxEnt 18:22, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chinook (draughts player)Chinook (checkers player) – Per MOS:TIES (this was developed at the University of Alberta), this should follow Canadian English, where as far as I can find, the game is referred to as checkers. There might be some alternate possible disambiguators as well, such as (software), that avoids the TIES issue. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 02:48, 28 June 2020 (UTC) Relisting. IffyChat -- 22:34, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Relisting. Jerm (talk) 03:56, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
