Old talk: on terms Bronze script and Bronzeware script[edit]

I wish to point out the imprecision of calling a script "bronze" when in fact bronze is a medium in which characters have been cast from the mid Shang to the Han dynasty and onwards, with an incredible range of graphic structures and styles. That is, despite frequent references to a 'bronze script', there is no one such animal. If you are referring to bronze graphs from the Shang, a period in which strutures and styles on bronzes are fairly uniform, please write "Shang bronze"; if Zhou, pls. be even more specific when possible, e.g., "Early Western Zhou bronze graph" or "from the state of Qin in the late Warring States period" (the scripts were VERY different in different areas at that time). If you don't know which period it is but are referring to the one between the oracle bones and the small seal script, "writing on Zhou bronzes" or "Zhou bronze inscriptions" is far better wording than 'bronze script'. I have completely rebuilt the page and in the process dealt with all the above objections. I am removing the 'stub' label now since the page is vastly larger and completely different than before; please have a look and assign a new rating as you see fit.Dragonbones (talk) 03:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Bronze Script"[edit]

Dragonbones, I appreciate all of your work, really. But could you just put the name "Bronze Script" somewhere in the title? I really don't think this Wikipedia article was the appropriate place to not only argue for but establish your distaste for this handy scholarly label.

Name in Chinese?[edit]

I don't read Chinese, but looking at the Chinese version of this page, it appears 金文 is the term they have chosen. If that works, can it be added to the article? Wakablogger2 (talk) 06:47, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
