Image copyright problem with Image:Hilario Davide.jpg[edit]

The image Image:Hilario Davide.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

Acting CJ[edit]

We don't add who where the acting CJs on the gaps between the terms of office of the chief justices, so I don't see the reason why we should do that now. I'd presume there were also acting CJs when the sitting CJ took a leave (justices on leave are quite normal) and they're not added here eihter. Carlos P. Garcia was acting president for a day, and Arroyo herself was sworn as acting president on January 20, 2001 but it's not noted at the presidential list. –HTD 14:19, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If we won't add a name after Corona, the data in the table can be construed that the position of Chief Justice has been abolished as of May 29, 2012. Xeltran (talk) 15:27, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Let's say Noynoy and Binay went on a hunting trip and both went missing. Then they found Noynoy's dead body tomorrow. That means Binay should've been acting president, but he can't be found. Hence we'd say that Noynoy ended his term tomorrow, but we don't know Binay's status, so we leave the presidential list with Noynoy as the "final" entry. Does that mean that the office of the president is abolished? :: Now, then they found Binay 4 days after and told him they found Noynoy's corpse, and swore him as president on the spot. That means there's a gap of 4 days in the term of offices of Noynoy and Binay. Does that mean that the office of the president is abolished for four days and is un-abolished after 4 days? (See how the presidential list treated this abolition).
The only way a reader can explicitly know that the office is abolished when there's an explicit statement that the office has been abolished; if there's no statement, that means it's not yet abolished.
At the very most, Carpio deserves a footnote, but that's stretching it. What if he is not appointed as CJ? –HTD 15:43, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My main argument posts this question: who succeeded Corona after May 29, 2012 as there is seemingly no name after his? You don't even need to present Carpio's name in the same way the other appointed CJs are in the table: a subscript, footnote...anything will do. We have to present it in a way that is comprehensible to people who are not updated with Philippine politics or are not living in the country. Yes, Carpio may not be appointed as the next CJ but that's out of the question. Besides, when the next CJ is appointed feel free to scratch Carpio's name off the list if he's not the next CJ.
The only way a reader can explicitly know that the office is abolished when there's an explicit statement that the office has been abolished; if there's no statement, that means it's not yet abolished. You're leaving it to the reader to surmise that there is someone out there being a CJ in acting capacity rather than showing it clearly and unambiguously that someone is indeed sitting as CJ in an acting capacity. Let's not complicate things. You can remove Carpio's name when the next CJ is appointed but until that happens, someone's name must be at the table to present continuity. Xeltran (talk) 16:01, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Um no. It just means no one has succeeded him. That's the most obvious explanation one can muster. These offices are not designed to be succeeded automatically once the post is vacated (JBC notwithstanding; there's no position like a "vice chief justice" that will automatically succeed when the post is vacated a la the vice president). Think of it as a sports league championship: I don't think anyone in their right mind would think that the NBA closed right after 2011 NBA Finals (LOL they did) when you look at the List of NBA champions list.
The nearest comparison, IMHO, is not the list on Philippine presidents or Japanese prime ministers. What did the Americans do when Chief Justice Rehnquist died in 2005? They made him the last entry until a replacement was sworn in. –HTD 16:11, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited the footnote in the table which I believe is the best compromise. Feel free to comment. Xeltran (talk) 16:19, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This should be OK. For the meantime, I've hidden the templates stating that he is a chief justice, and removed the category in the Carpio article. –HTD 17:14, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
