Walkovers are not the same as byes[edit]

A bye refers to a team or individual automatically advancing to the next round of tournament play without competing. A walkover is the awarding of a victory to a contestant because there are no other contestants, or because the other contestants have been disqualified, or have forfeited, or have withdrawn from the contest. The byes in this tournament are not walkovers. Byes are not walkovers.

I am genuinely questioning the use of walkover in these grids.

I thought it was odd, but didn't argue because I thought it was one of those words whose usage varies from country to country. But since the official tournament tree calls them byes [1], I agree it is better that we do the same. Adpete (talk) 01:55, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seeding uses the June list, not the July list[edit]

Someone in the last couple of days has incorrectly re-ordered the players in the "Participants" section. For instance, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave has a June rating of 2760 [2] and is the 7th seed, but someone has put in his July rating (2749) and incorrectly demoted him to 10th seed. Text and/or other creative content from Chess World Cup 2021 was copied or moved into Chess World Cup 2023. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists.
