Old talk[edit]

Is the year given the year where the voting was done, or for the year which the player was considered the best. IE was 1967 the year Larsen was chosen or the year in which Larsen was voted to be best?

The latter. i.e. Larsen was best in 1967, Fischer in 1970-72, etc. I'm almost certain. Rocksong 01:11, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trademark[edit]

How does the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences feel about the appropriation of its Oscar trademark? jnestorius(talk) 01:05, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there women version of the chess oscar?[edit]

In Judit Polgar's website http://juditpolgar.com/player-of-the-century mentions that "[she] was awarded the Chess Oscar seven times" Abhishikt (talk) 01:17, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A quick google uncovered http://www.edochess.ca/batgirl/Oscar.html which says that there is a women's version of the award, but I had never heard this. Quale (talk) 06:18, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done, I have added some text in the lead, and some of the female winners (mainly copied from Russian version of the article). We need to fill the winners of the second period (during 64 magazine as organizer), I only have found the aforementioned years that Polgar won it. Alexcalamaro (talk) 21:44, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Successor Award?[edit]

Could the Chess.com Player of the Year Awards be included as a legitimate successor to the Chess Oscar for the years 2020-23?

2020: Carlsen (open) 2021: Nakamura (open) 2022: Carlsen (open) 2023: Carlsen (open); Rameshbabu (woman)

The FIDE Caissa Chess Awards, as referenced in the article, were established to recognize a variety of members of the international chess community. However, in practice, it seems only women have been recognized. It might be framed as a legitimate successor to the Women's Chess Oscar for the years in which it was awarded:

2009: Nadeszha Kosintseva

2010: Hou Yifan

2011:Hou Yifan

2012: J. Polgar

2013: Hou Yifan

2014: Hou Yifan

2015: Maria Muzychuk

2016: Anna Muzychuk

2017: Nana Dzagnidze

I don't see that it was awarded for 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023. 66.207.215.118 (talk) 19:01, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
