• Comment I'm inclined to agree that long-term significance is in favor of the toast, but the problem is that there is negligible content about the toast on WP, nor is there an overwhelming amount of traffic related to it. For reference, here are the 30 day stats:
  • The American TV series has 135,168 page views. The second-most viewed page named or with an incoming redirect named "cheers" is for the Beacon Hill bar used for the show's establishing shots, at 4,282, followed by the Rihanna song at 2,536.
  • Of pages not actually named "cheers" nor with a redirect named "cheers", but linked from the dab page, the article for the musician Blackbear is on top with 19,790 visits (but I'd guess these are most likely not all incoming from "Cheers" -related links)
  • The page for "Toast (honor)" has 6,778 visits.
  • All articles named/redirected "cheers" other than the show: 9,403
  • All articles linked from the dab page but not named/redirected "cheers" : 39,288 (again, probably greatly inflated from non-"cheers" sources)

• The statistics at [1] and [2] are an issue for this argument, as it seems apparent that there's at best about 1% of the traffic going the hatnote (it's not in the top 20, the 20th item is 1.15k while incoming total is 87k), the traffic is scattered quite well in the TV series universe (it doesn't seem readers are at a dead end), and the overall traffic at Cheers alone is orders of magnitude larger than the next eligible item on the list and more than the sum of the rest combined. --Joy (talk) 10:06, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

• Support, long-term significance favors the toast and not the show. Page views don't mean anything, and with lack of obvious PRIMARY I think DAB should be at base name.

I would certainly support merging the Cheer (disambiguation) page, which was created in June 2021 and has the article "Cheering" as its WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, into the more-extensive Cheers (disambiguation) page, created nearly 16 years earlier, in October 2005. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:24, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

@Zxcvbnm: By all means. I definitely agree that there is no need for two separate dab pages. The main title header of Cheers (disambiguation) can be moved to Cheer (disambiguation) or even to simply Cheer, depending upon consensus, thus satisfying those who prefer to leave the header for the TV series intact at Cheers. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 05:50, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

"Cheer" for Cheering is a justified primary topic, so I oppose this suggestion. Any move or merge involving Cheer or Cheer (disambiguation) should probably be its own discussion. 162 etc. (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

And even if we do merge the plural DAB page (which I'd be fine with per WP:DABCOMBINE) it should be moved to the base name first if the plural doesn't have a primary topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:43, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

• OpposeMostly per Joy. I think it seems TV series is the primary topic here. It is by far the most common topic for "Cheers" on Wikipedia. In addition, "American TV series" is too cumbersome, most won't search that. If moved, "Cheers (TV series)" should be PRIMARY REDIRECT. --Quiz shows 05:14, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
