Merger with Chasmatosaurus[edit]

Both The Marshall Illustrated Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals and the Paleobiology Database[1], the latter of which is edited by university professors, identify Chasmatosuchus as Chasmatosaurus, so these two articles should be merged as Chasmatosaurus. Are you sure? I thought at least one species of Chasmatosaurus was found to be synonymous with Proterosuchus. Were the others referred to Chasmatosuchus? If not, both Chasmatosaurus and Chasmatosuchus are valid, though I imagine there's a larger taxonomic issue here somehere (isn't there always? ;) ).Dinoguy2 18:10, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. If they're both valid there doesn't need to be a merger between these articles, right? I might have jumped to conclusions too soon after seeing the similar names (there are also a Hesperosuchus and a Hesperosaurus, which are indeed seperate creatures), but it's still kinda suspicious since they're both in the same family. Are there any sources favoring suchus over saurus?

EDIT- Just saw that there's also a Chasmatosuchus on Paleo DB. I think this means they are seperate genera; I'll remove the merger tag and add Chasmatosaurus to Proterosuchidae alongside Chasmatosuchus. Jerkov 18:23, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
