Charleston has many meanings[edit]

I see no logic in moving the Charleston page to Charleston (disambiguation) and making Charleston, South Carolina the primary page. This is the height of ignorance and of geographical bias given the number of meanings to the word. I have listed it at Wikipedia:Requested moves in order to have it moved back. This article has been renamed after the result of a move request. Charleston has been restored as a disambiguation page. Dragons flight 02:08, August 31, 2005 (UTC)

Oppose[edit]

Not only is Charleston, SC primary use, many of the others are named after her. Septentrionalis 19:21, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Charleston should be a disambiguation page. It's a dance, it's the capital of West Virginia, it's an important city in S.C. and in many other places. I oppose pointing Charleston at just one meaning. Jonathunder 20:23, 2005 August 23 (UTC)

There should be a disambiguation page at Charleston, of course. CDThieme 16:06, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

There are hundreds of cities around the world that have primary disambiguation because they are believed to be far more common uses of the word than the others, including Wellington, Dunedin, and Bradford. Of the things listed on Charleston (disambiguation), which one(s) do you believe are even close to as likely as Charleston, SC to be what a reader is interested in? Charleston is the capital and largest city of West Virginia. It is also the name of cities of considerable size in many other places. I would strongly oppose making Charleston, SC a rare exception to the city comma state naming convention for U.S. cities. Jonathunder 18:01, 2005 August 21 (UTC)
I would also oppose movingCharleston, South Carolina. Charleston should redirect there. Septentrionalis 19:23, 23 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
