Suicide?[edit]

Hello! I have no idea why this his death is labelled as a 'mysterious disappearance' in any way, shape, or form. He left multiple notes behind in his cabin, and wrote a will just before departing. It was obviously a suicide, even contemporary sources figured that out but somehow Wikipedia is unable to crack that mystery. Please exercise a modicum of discretion and common sense. Thanks! I'm afraid that such a conclusion is what we call WP:Original research. If the conclusion's as obvious as you say there should be no trouble finding a secondary source flat-out saying that. EEng 02:26, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I understand WP:Original Research rules, and I understand why it can't be listed as a suicide if it hasn't been officially a suicide, but I wonder why it was not. The guy left a new will, last letters, and a note in his cabin about the disposition of his luggage, FCOL. There's the mystery--why was this not ruled a suicide? Source? I see no citation regarding his relationship to Max Eastman and the ASP or his opinions of either.[edit]

Influenced by his friend and roommate at Williams, Max Eastman, Whittlesey spent several years as a member of the American Socialist Party before resigning his membership in disgust over what he viewed as the movement's increasing extremism.
