World title in speed skating in 1926[edit]

In the paraphrase of the career-section it says : «Gorman returned to previous form in 1926, winning both the Canadian outdoor and the North American indoor titles, and beating Olympic champion Clas Thunberg of Finland to claim the World Championship.»

But who delivered out that world title, since it is not the International Skating Union according to this source. Speed Skating - World Allround Speed Skating Championships Overview

The information about the 1926 world championship is in the Canadian Encyclopedia and Sports Hall of Fame references, and can be seen on the plaque in the photo in the article. I have no idea how many organizations purported to give world titles back in 1926, or which one(s) would have been considered to be the most prestigious. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:14, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a clarification in the article of what type the championship it was, since it is not the major governing body of todays world championship in speed skating. Which could be a proper outlining in this case ?
My hunch of what type of championship it was: is that it might be/could be a packstyle-championship like the Olympics of 1932, but that is just a hunch I have, since he obvious preferred that style (referred to other places in the same article). Absent some good reliable sources, I'd be reluctant to add such a clarification unless it was done to all articles referring to world championships from the period. But I see your point. Would the easier way to do this be to reword the reference(s) in this article from "the World Championship" to "a world championship"? --Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:50, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I asked among my speed-skating friends in a forum on faceebook-group called Forum for skøytehistorie (Translated to english: Forum for speed skating history) who have a great knowledge of speed skating history allthough all of them are based in Norway. And they gave me clue about the North-Americans Skating Associations for about 100 yrs ago (± 35-40 yrs). You might find more about those in this document. And according to one of them which called the championship C.Gorman won in 1926 against Thunberg for World Outdoor Speed Skating Championship but called the same kinda championship the other years for International Outdoor/Indoor Speed Skating Championship. So after some more research I have a strong feeling it could be related to the International Skating Union of America (ISUA) which is mentioned in the 2nd paragraph in International Skating Union#History The title World Champions are being used here in a context for these competitions. See also this Word doc on page 2 and 3 from www.nationalspeedskatingmuseum.org about the ISUA organization.
So changing the wording from the World Championship to a world championship is by my standard not a good wording, and disrecognizes the skaters level of achievement, cause it needs to be put in a context, which is meaningful and understandable.
Conclusion/suggestion from me would be to call it what it was/were and maybe even the organization who arranged the championship.
