Armor units: divisions or regiments?[edit]

Hello MWAK, Are you sure that the creation of armored divisions in case of war was planned before 1940? I know that there have been proposals for armoured divisions within the infantry but I think the only "official" unit was still the tank regiment. Thanks. -Le Petit Chat (talk) 21:20, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if we limit ourselves to formal decisions: on 2 December 1938 the Conseil Supérieur de la Guerre decided that two DCrs would be created, not conditional on a war emergency. Actual formation of such units would of course be contingent on the number of medium tanks being made available by the slow peace production and was not expected until 1941...--MWAK (talk) 07:33, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the answer.--Le Petit Chat (talk) 07:54, 11 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of D2 in snow[edit]

A D2 tank in the snow, January 1940.

@MWAK: c:File:French D2 tank, January 1940 03.jpg is a scan obtained via Gallica, that indicates "domaine public" in the "Informations détaillées" associated with this image. Per c:Template:PD-GallicaScan, it can be hosted in Commons and used in Wikipedia.--Le Petit Chat (talk) 15:52, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But that template is not a licence tag. Has a special status been acknowledged by Commons for all such Gallica images?--MWAK (talk) 16:16, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Gallica indicates a "public domain" mention for this file so I think it's ok.

The problem here is that while the scan might be public domain, the original picture might not be. So the image still needs a licence tag. And indeed another one, indicating it is public domain under the law of the USA.--MWAK (talk) 10:41, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. But this magazine is in the public domain in France: Gallica indicates domaine public. Some books on Gallica aren't in the public domain (for instance this one). I thought being in the public domain in France was enough to be hosted on Commons. By the way, it was published 79 years ago and its author is anonymous. --Le Petit Chat (talk) 15:49, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
