1. Chi mi gun dàil an t-àit' 's an d'rugadh mi,
Cuirear orm fàilt' a' chanain a thuigeas mi;

Nach reicinn air thunnaichean òir.

Translation

Chorus:

O I will see, see the great mountains,
O I will see, see the lofty mountains,
O I will see, see the corries,
I will see the peaks under mist.

1. I shall see without delay the place where I was born,
I shall receive a welcome in the language that I understand;
I shall get there a smile and love when I arrive
That I would not trade for tons of gold.

2. I shall see the sun grow pale in the sky
I shall see the dusk in the west when it sets;
It won't be like it always is in this town,
The smoke hiding its glory.

3. There I shall get music from the birds of my Homeland,
Although the time is after the time of the cuckoo,
Mavises are there and their sound is dearer to me
Than pipe or fiddle for music.

And it's there I would live the longest.

Alternate Translation of three verses

1. Soon shall I gaze on the place of my birth again.
There will they welcome me home in the words I ken,
Gift of homecoming and love when I'm come to them,
missed not for mountains of gold.

5. There, shall grave forest and grove to my eye appeear.
There, where the fair fertile leas lie, a belvedere.
There, at the foot of the steep-sided fells,
the deer mist-encloaked mountains enfold.

6. High as the beauty of high ben and high tor,
a host who'll keep place at their hearths as a right for
a Heart that leaps light as my step to the sight, for
amidst of our mountains I'll hold.

Yeah, I think they're all on the main page now, but it still refers to "four of six known verses"; I'll change that to "eight verses". --Haruo (talk) 17:05, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
