As the leading sentence of this article states; "Cephissus (Greek Κηφισσός: Kifissós, Kēphissós, or Kêphissos) or Cephisus (Greek Κηφῑσός: Kēphîsos) is the name of several rivers in Greece." It might well be important for interested parties to know that having so many rivers carry the same nomenclature as well as variations in spelling in historical tracts, both those considered ancient and articles published in the last 200 years, can make the identification of a specific river very hard to ascertain. The suffix of the word, is variously rendered as "-issus, -issos, -isus, -isos", etc., and one might well note that this same suffix appears to be somewhat common within the names of other rivers located in both Greece and Asia Minor. Some times it appears that this suffix actually is used as the prefix or even the entire name, (see; "Issus" a river in Asia Minor).

One might well contend that the letters "issus" might even be but a variation of the English word "issue", used in the manner that "blood issues (flows, courses, comes fourth, etc.) from and within a body." Certainly since most all rivers began from a source like a "natural spring", then the connection to "Mother Earth" must well have been in the minds of our Greek ancestors? This attitude though is in direct opposition to the support given for "Keph, or Ceph", etc. being considered as "river!", although one might well consider that "River Issues", might well work?

It might even be considered that the word "keph" or "Ceph", (possibly "kef? / cef") etc., might well be but a version of "cleft", I.E. "an opening or a cut in the Earth?"
