Still a Stub?[edit]

I'm not sure this article should still be considered a stub. What needs to be done to update its status?Rlendog (talk) 01:11, 10 March 2010(UTC)

Commentary on Cooperation[edit]

One form of altruism that this article mentions briefly is the use of alarm calls in squirrel monkey. It would be interesting to see whether the monkey did this for all his troopmates, or only for certain kinds of members like mature females or for the young. Being a rather noisy brood of monkeys, it would be interesting to see whether the squirrel monkeys used their voices for any other cooperative activity. Perhaps squirrel monkeys are not very cooperative, but since their social structure is marked by no coalitions or sex-based dominance it does appear to be more individualistic than other primate species. Sadly, I still think this article could have been improved by specifically stating the failure of squirrel monkeys to cooperate beyond alarm calls. Central American Squirrel Monkey Distribution in Panama[edit]

I lived in rural Panama for a number of years a few years back and this species is still very prevalent on the north shore of lake gatun. They frequently came up to my doorstep and I definately positively identified them. This is in contrast to this wikipedia article which places them exclusively on the border with Costa Rica. I have many contacts in that area that can conccur. Adam vivatuanis@yahoo.com
