Premiere[edit]

The sonata was overshadowed by the huge success of his second piano concerto, which premiered on November 24, 1901. It was first played in Moscow.

This troubles me somewhat. On the face of it, it's saying the 2nd Piano Concerto premiered on 24 November 1901. But that concerto premiered on 27 October 1901, so the November date presumablty refers to the premiere of the Cello Sonata. Maybe it should be saying something like:

The sonata was premiered on 24 November 1901 in Moscow, but was overshadowed by the huge success of his second piano concerto, which had been premiered the previous month. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 20:56, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"One of the most important cello sonatas of..."[edit]

"It is hailed as one of the most important cello sonatas of the 20th century."

I'm going to remove this statement. Though it may be referenced, it does not seem to me to be encyclopedic. "... one of the most ..." comes off to me as a weasel phrase as well. I believe this is one of the few cases where "one of the most" is actually appropriate. There is a large number of cello sonatas composed in the 20th century, but only few are in the standard repertoire nowadays. --176.199.192.165 (talk) 04:22, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This piece opens with a solo cello, can we be a bit more precise as to ""Most of the themes" being introduced by the piano??Coal town guy (talk) 13:12, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
