The end of the lead reads badly to me: "and during World War I was as pro-war and anti-German as most of his fellow citizens." It isn't normal to comment on the fact that someone shared the views of their culture. If his more famous brother, GKC, had been pro-German, say, or if he had been an ardent pacifist, then it might make sense to say "unlike his brother" or "despite earlier views he was as pro-war and anti-German...", so as it stands there is an impression that there is a reason why people might be surprised that he shared his culture's views. No such reason is given in the rest of the article. (NB GKC was not pro-German at all, I'm just using that as an example.) I'll delete that line if no-one objects.
