Name change to remove "Paramount" name[edit]

Cedar Fair is phasing out the "Paramount" name in the park's title. It has been removed from the official logo and signs with Paramount still on them are being replaced. I think now, due to recent events, the article should reflect the park's name change to just "Carowinds". I don't expect much criticism with this, but I decided to go with procedure here instead of just renaming it without other input. --TinMan 06:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did the local people in NC&SC actually call it "Paramount's Carowinds", or was it commonly called simply "Carowinds". In New Jersey most of us call our park simply "Great Adventure" and not "Six Flags' Great Adventure", even though it has been part of Six Flags since 1977. Does anyone have any information on Hanna Barbera land? I know there was a Scooby Doo ride and some Flintstones props, but nothing on the page.

1987 Shooting at Ocean Island (water-themed area within the park)[edit]

Does anyone have information on the shooting that killed two girls swimming in the wave pool called Ocean Island? One of the victims was Michelle Sexton, a sophomore at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, S.C.; the other was a young girl (perhaps 6)? Michelle Sexton was killed after being shot in the back. A 6 year old girl named Ahesha Rollins was also injured when she was also struck by a bullet in the abdomen. Sale to Apollo Management[edit]

Quoting directly from the source:[1]

"Carowinds is coming under new ownership.

Cedar Fair LP, owner of the attraction along the Carolinas border at Charlotte, has agreed to be acquired by Apollo Global Management for about $635 million in cash."

Boomerrang Bay[edit]

Heritage USA[edit]

The article alludes to a plan to make this area a tourist destination. Heritage USA was built about the same time about a mile from Carowinds. would it be worth a mention?69.37.68.72 (talk) 22:15, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Undue weight tag[edit]

Anyone have any feelings on this? It seems like it's worth mentioning but maybe take out the lists or condense them into prose so their isn't undue emphasis on this part? Leefkrust22 (talk) 07:42, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely convert this section into prose. I would also provide general descriptions of what goes on instead of naming specific haunts/attractions, although a couple of examples wouldn't be bad. Vortex error?[edit]

This page claims that Vortex was the South's first stand-up roller coaster. This may depend on one's definition of where 'The South' begins but Kings Dominion opened a Togo stand-up roller coaster named "Shockwave" in 1986. First coaster to cross state lines[edit]

The page says Thunder Road holds that title. While Thunder Road crosses state lines, that title actually belongs to Carowinds own Carolina Goldrusher.

Why is Fury 325 the tallest giga coaster?[edit]

  • Nominator has been blocked indefinitely, and in fact has not made a single edit to the nominated article (which isn't a problem per se, but in this case the nominator claimed to have converted the article from a redirect, which is demonstrably false). Additionally, Earwig's tool turned out a whopping 90.5% similarity with https://en.advisor.travel/poi/Carowinds-16188, although I don't know whether that site copied from Wikipedia or vice-versa. --Dylan620 (he/him · talk · edits) 04:14, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Dylan620: That website has the following notice: All textual information is provided under Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike. The licenses for media files are to be specified in each case separately. Even if the Wikipedia article copied from that page, it is not a violation since CC-BY-SA is compatible with Wikipedia, and attribution could be provided on the page. However, I am pretty sure it was the other way around. (Incidentally, this is a longstanding article that has been around since at least 2007, so deletion should not have been requested.   • @Epicgenius: Aye, and I am deeply embarrassed to admit that I didn't realize that about the page's licensing until after the article had already been deleted. I didn't request deletion, though; in fact, I was one of the first to rebuke the deleting admin on his talk page. Even right away I wanted to leave wiggle room for the prospect that the site in question had copied from Wikipedia; deletion hadn't even occurred yet by the time a gut feeling had sunk in that such was the case. --Dylan620 (he/him · talk · edits) 02:29, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dylan620, no worries. I don't blame you for the deletion, just thought it was strange that it was deleted so drastically. Your reason for rejecting the article is most likely correct though; as a page watcher, I don't recall this being improved to GA or 5x expanded recently. Whole page deleted?[edit]

@Jimfbleak, I noticed that the whole article was deleted under speedy deletion criterion G12. The Carowinds article was a longstanding article which has existed since 2007. If it were a problem, the copyright issue should've been removed (with the offending revisions removed from article history) and the article turned to a stub, not deleted. However, I'm doubting this was a copyright problem, as the alleged violating website has the following notice: "All textual information is provided under Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike. The licenses for media files are to be specified in each case separately."

Also pinging @GoneIn60 and @JlACEer for guidance on what to do. This is probably one of the highest-profile deletions I've ever seen; it is a top-importance article in WP:WPAP's Cedar Fair task force, so I'm pretty sure this deletion will be noticed pretty quickly. – Epicgenius (talk) 02:10, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I've requested an undeletion from WP:REFUND. Seeing as how (1) the article dated to 2007, with at least one revision that should've been copyvio-free, and (2) the website is not clearly a copyright-violating site, this really should not have been deleted. – Epicgenius (talk) 02:28, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
