Updated revenues and employee count per 21 August 2007 news release, available from Cargill.com [1] _lise 18:12, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the criticism section -- this seemed like a highly biased and inflammatory quote from the cited article and certainly not NPOV. This may not be a Cargill promotional page, but neither is it a Greenpeace propaganda forum. Rufus Sarsaparilla 22:06, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cargill is actually the second-largest privately-held corporation in the US, and the world, behind Koch Industries (by revenue). $80 billion > $71 billion http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/40/40267.html

This page needs a lot of editing. Most of the information is about 4 years old or more and seems to be quoted from Monsanto articles from SWW. Family is no longer primary shareholder as company bought stock on employee stock program, they sold their seed business for ethical reasons, etc.

The comment about outsourcing is biased and in my opinion untrue. They've outsourced some functions. The company is growing and very much committed to employees. The comment sounds like it came from someone who lost their job and is not approaching this from NPOV. Scott Carpenter 17:51, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History?[edit]

I'm currently updating Savage, Minnesota and this Cargill article completely neglects any mention of its history and historical perspective within Minnesota, rather focusing on the right now. That's great for Wikinews but to be encyclopedic, this article needs to focus on what Cargill has been for almost a century. .:DavuMaya:. 03:14, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i agree. i need to know the story of cargill and what there historical impact on the world has been. 2601:441:4281:93A0:9C9C:94BD:7CA2:5082 (talk) 04:48, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 14:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the criticism section[edit]

I've tried to at least organize it, but it seems to be problematic --offering an unbalanced view and coatracking in arguments about deforestation. --Bobak (talk) 20:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I see what the problem is with this section. The article is about Cargill and this lists a number of problems that have involved Cargill. That to me seems fair criticism. DDD DDD (talk) 07:00, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Countries in Which Cargill Operates[edit]

Is this really needed? The list itself is aslong as the article before it and will get even longer as there are other counties that haven't been listed yet. Bidgee (talk) 21:17, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. How about taking it out of list form? It looks like this:

In Asia, Cargill operates in: Australia, China India Indonesia Japan Malaysia Pakistan,Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. Africa operations include: Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana,Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Central American/Caribbean operations include: Bonaire, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. European operations include: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and United Kingdom. North American operations include: Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America. South American operations include: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

I assume from the list that is "countries", not "counties"? - Jmabel | Talk 20:15, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"How much does India contribute towards the agri business unit of Cargill. What is the potential growth expected? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mandeep ps (talkcontribs) 17:49, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I updated the list per their website (diff), but really I think it's probably best to just give a general statement about which regions they operate in, and defer to the company website for the most updated and comprehensive list if readers are really interested, so we don't have to bother with keeping it updated whenever anything changes. AdventurousSquirrel (talk) 06:14, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"As of 2016, Cargill operates in 70 countries across six regions around the world." There are seven regions listed. Can someone please explain the discrepancy?Puuuj (talk) 12:37, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship to genetically modified crops[edit]

I think the corporate attitude of Monsanto towards genetical engineering is well known, however I think noone knows about Cargill, yet it is a big company. Is there no (new) data available for Cargill's strategy concerning "new" technologies & food? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.108.103.172 (talk) 18:38, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If nothing else, Cargill's "relationship" to GM Crops can be inferred from its Seed Division. Historically, this division has promoted, developed and sold several GM seed lines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.236.7.89 (talk) 08:25, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Leslie Salt Co.[edit]

I was going to make [Leslie Salt] / [Leslie Salt Co.] / [Leslie Salt Company] redirect to here, but I see that the name doesn't appear in this article. There are several mentions of it in Wikipedia articles, and I believe they should all link here. Leslie Salt was the corporate predecessor of Cargill Salt. Not an area in which I'm at all expert (which is why I'm on the talk page, not editing without discussion), but see http://www.scripophily.net/lesliesaltco.html, http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/1996/07/01/story2.html, http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_/ai_21043112. I don't think there is much doubt.

If no one responds in the next 72 hours or so, I'll just go ahead and add the mention here & create appropriate redirects. - Jmabel | Talk 20:13, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking response, I will proceed. - Jmabel | Talk 19:16, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Methylmercury[edit]

Cargill agreed to treat the seed grain with Methylmercury.

For what reasons should seed grains be treated with Methylmercury? --Abdull (talk) 13:07, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is used to preserve seed grain. --Weetoddid (talk) 14:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Profile needed[edit]

Within this profile it should list all its acquisitions, Environmental record, Employment of undocumented immigrants, Use of questionable slaughtering methods, Undisclosed use of antibiotics, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chodaboy19 (talkcontribs) 22:06, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article Needs to be Cleaned Up[edit]

Who made such a mess of this article? Why does it say 3 different times that the corporation is privately held? I have not read the whole thing - that is just towards the beginning... Stevenmitchell (talk) 02:35, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So is it privately held? I heard somewhere its privately held. Practice. --Bobak (talk) 00:40, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

corporate equality index[edit]

I'm removing "Cargill has maintained a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI) released by the Human Rights Campaign (the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy group in the US), since 2004." from the politics and economics because it doesn't have to do with either. It has to do with work environment and also is long overdue in acquiring refs. Also i'm not sure that is a clear representation either, due to reports of a person being fired because they supported marriage equality and other human rights abuses. I propose it be changed to economic views too — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lerikson (talkcontribs) 04:59, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New recall[edit]

They announced a voluntary recall of turkey meat today: http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/09/12/turkey.recall/index.html. Something about this should be added to the "food contamination" section. --Mwn3d (talk) 15:36, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gregorg Page Role[edit]

This bit is inconsistent with the key people listed in the sidebar.

Gregory R. Page, who is not part of either the Cargill or MacMillan families, is the chief executive officer of Cargill. He succeeded former CEO Warren Staley in mid-2007, as Staley reached Cargill's mandatory retirement age of 65.

It seems like David MacLennan took over and Page became executive chairman. If this is correct, the sentence about Page being CEO of Cargill should be uipdated to reflect the new situation I think? Ccheever (talk)

Mighty Earth Website as a legitimate source?[edit]

Dear Ekem,

I doubt that the Mighty Earth website is a valid source. The website doesn't mention a date for their statements regarding Cargill. I already contacted Mighty Earth via E-Mail and waiting for their reply. In addition it looks like, the report isn't made by Henry Waxman. To me it seems that the report is published by Mighty Earth, with Waxman just providing a few lines. Usually I prefer to talk to Wikipedians first instead of ruin their live/deleted edits ratio.

Da Vinci Nanjing (talk) 14:29, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your thoughts. It looks to me that Mighty Earth is an environmental site sponsored by the Center for International Policy. The fact that it has not a WP entry does not make it invalid, - it could just be linked to CIP for simplicity or a WP entry could be made. The report provides sources and references, and Henry A. Waxman is the chairman whom I quote and who, in his role, would have to sign off on the report. The report has gotten international attention, see Spiegel online Ekem (talk) 19:20, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Career programs[edit]

Blatant advertising. Why is this here??? 142.198.148.181 (talk) 13:05, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Page badly needs updating[edit]

The page has several "as of 2016" statements that should be updated. Some, eg, list of members of the company's Board of Directors, should be relatively easy to fix. 169.252.4.23 (talk) 14:36, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
