Verdict is out[edit]

"Chile's supreme court has jailed five retired senior military officers over the killing of dozens of government opponents under military rule. The head of the committee, Gen Sergio Arellano Stark, is now 88. He was jailed for six years for ordering the murder of four men at a military prison in Linares, southern Chile. Rephrase: "his trial is ongoing"[edit]

This is quite awkward. "Augusto Pinochet was indicted in December 2002 in this case, but he died four years later without having been judged. His trial, however, is ongoing since his and other military personnel and a former military chaplain have also been indicted in this case."

At least in the United States the idea of having a trial of a dead man is absurd. You could have a fact-finding tribunal, or a commission on inquiry, but not a trial.

Maybe someone who is more familiar with what is going on could re-phrase this so that it doesn't sound grammatically and logically incorrect, as it does at the moment.
