Role[edit]

Capucine acted in the film "The 7th Dawn" with William Holden and Susannah York

Birth year[edit]

From doing some research on the web, it looks to me like the 1933 birth year given in alot of web sources is wrong. The more journalistic-looking sources in French give her birth date as Jan. 6, 1928, making her 62 when she died. -Eric (talk) 02:48, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tend to agree with you. The Find a Grave source says 1933, and the third source says she told people she was born in 1933 but was actually born in 1931, which is what we're currently using. However, and although IMDB is not always accurate, IMDB says she was born in 1928. I'll make the change. -- JackofOz (talk) 23:59, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever you decide, the DOB/DOD and age at death ought to at least be consistent in this article... 71.125.155.42 (talk) 19:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good pick up. Fixed now. -- JackofOz (talk) 21:09, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has been reversed based on the NY Times obit. Anyone interested in more intensive research to find out what the story is? Maybe a paragraph in the article on it? (John User:Jwy talk) 18:56, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1928 is the correct year. (92.13.99.172 (talk) 12:21, 23 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

The 1928 birth year is likely correct. It is far from uncommon for models and actresses to give later birthdates (and Capucine apparently routinely stated the false 1933), so on the surface it would not be surprising to find other erroneous birthdates. A wide range of online sources list 1928, while very few list 1931. The NYT is not the sole arbiter of truth, so at the very least the uncertainty seems to merit mention in the article. If the contention that she claimed 1933 falsely can be sourced, that seems to merit addition, as well. This is hardly a reliable source, but mentions 1931 (from Wikipedia) and then her death at age 62, as well :-o

And if the NYT is the source for all truthful information, back to 1933 it should go ...

1928 is definitively the correct year of birth and Saint-Raphael is the correct place. We have already corrected the french wikipedia for this actress with the source "Les Gens du Cinéma" that use her birth certificate. Her complete birth name is : Germaine Hélène Irène Lefebvre. http://www.lesgensducinema.com/affiche_acteur.php?mots=capucine&nom_acteur=CAPUCINE&ident=26708&debut=0&record=1&from=ok The preface of the book of André Siscot, a french specialist of cinema, talk about this example: I made the translation in english of the part that concerns Capucine because it may interest you :"During my research, I found two different dates of death for the actress CAPUCINE. Unable to ascertain the actual date, I decided to write to the Mayor of Toulon, since all the dictionaries and biographies all agree with each other to signal: "Born in Toulon on January 6th ... (for the year, it varies between 1923 and 1933!). Answer of the City of Toulon, "Germaine Lefebvre is unknown in our records" I had to start researching in Switzerland where she died and specifying precisely the goal of my research. The answer of the city of Lausanne is unmistakable: the actress was born in SAINT RAPHAEL January 6, 1928. That is sure, but what do you think of the accuracy of my listing on CAPUCINE, since, for all the other writers, she is born in Toulon." http://www.lesgensducinema.com/preface.htm (Noyeux44 (talk) 20:07, 7 September 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Very good research. I've made the changes in the article. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 13:20, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the correction! (Noyeux44 (talk) 13:58, 30 September 2011 (UTC))[reply]
The last foot note citation says she was 67 at time of death. Should it be removed? https://www.deseretnews.com/article/92626/FRENCH-ACTRESS-CAPUCINE-LEAPS-TO-HER-DEATH.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.127.242.188 (talk) 03:27, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection[edit]

I've protected for five days because of the reverting over this issue. If the sources disagree, we should go with the most reliable, which I would say is almost certainly the NYT obit, [1], unless there's good reason to suppose they're mistaken. IMDB is not a reliable source for this kind of thing. SlimVirgin TALK|CONTRIBS 00:06, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

LGBT Project[edit]

Why does this talk page have the LGBT banner on it? F W Nietzsche (talk) 06:28, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because Capucine was a lesbian. (92.12.67.105 (talk) 13:03, 14 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]
That is not satisfactorily determined. Quis separabit? 02:32, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As it doesn't say that in the article, any objections to the LGBT banner being removed? 58.8.10.182 (talk) 13:39, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Now removed. 58.8.4.113 (talk) 06:10, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it does say it in the article. (92.9.69.17 (talk) 18:29, 22 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Actually, you're a banned user and your edits should and have been reverted. Pinkadelica 22:52, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I'm not. And since Capucine's lesbianism was the main reason for her suicide it definitely needs mentioning. (92.13.99.172 (talk) 12:20, 23 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Yeah, I suppose it is a coincidence that you just happen share the same annoying editing habits and IP range as a banned user who is also obsessed with actors' sexuality. Your edits here and on other articles will continue to be reverted because of that coincidence. I suggest you either open an account or give up this idiotic fight to label nearly every actor as gay or bisexual. Pinkadelica 20:01, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Capucine was very open about her lesbianism and it is mentioned in detail in the biographies I have read of William Holden, John Wayne and Dirk Bogarde, all of whom knew. (92.11.142.51 (talk) 20:08, 23 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Capucine was interviewed by Boze Hadleigh & she states she does love women. I remember reading the book. Patsy Kelly & Dame Judith Anderson were interviewed about lesbianism as well. The book is called Hollywood Lesbians. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.24.168.150 (talk) 02:07, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"I remember reading it somewhere" does not qualify as reliable source. As usual, the categories and banner to the LBGT project were added back despite this content not being supported or even mentioned in the article. Pinkadelica 01:26, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I read Boze Hadleigh's Hollywood Lesbians -- interesting but dubious as all the subjects are deceased, a purported precondition to publishing. He claims to have wrangled an invitation to chat up Marjorie Main, of all people, while still in his late teens somehow. I strongly doubt these women were actually videotaped in the "interviews". It's an interesting book, which is likely true at least as regards some interviewees, but impossible as far as I can tell to entirely confirm absent some evidence of the interviews and identification of the interviewees. Hence, not a reliable source. Quis separabit? 02:32, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you could remove the single sentence suggesting she had affairs with women as well. The reason why the Daily Telegraph is not a reliable source of lnformation and is prone to repeat what gossip papers say. Until there is evidence of a name its unwise to leave it Just hanging there; a single sentence as someone is likely to add 30 made up names to the sentence in the future. Otherwise excellent keep up the good work you are doing. Andrew Dock 65 (talk) 22:55, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Place of Birth[edit]

This is given as Toulon and Saint Rafael. They seem to be near each other but not identical. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.97.194.200 (talk) 16:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
