The Rundown?[edit]

Pretty sure that was stylized Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and not Capoeira at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.171.22.92 (talk) 03:22, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whoever posted this, I'm not so sure you are right. I remember watching a clip of a movie with the rock in it, fighting a gang of thugs, who used Capoeira amongst a list of martial arts techniques. It may be that BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) was also one of the techniques that they used, but I'm positive that Capoeira was also one of them. I am not sure if the name of this movie was The Rundown, therefore I will look into it further at a later time. But I will look into this ASAP. If it turns out that I am right, I will edit the bullet to properly explain this, as the thugs did not only use explicitly Capoeira. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:35, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

This page is in danger of extinction. I am going to attempt to save it, because I think it's an amazingly valuable source. Any information you can give me to help expand the references list, or help cite sources will be great. We need to add as many references as necessary. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:09, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusion[edit]

I believe the nomination for deletion has been removed. Mission accomplished, for now. Although this article should have many more sources cited. Ryt 007 (talk) 17:01, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the article's creator (me) only created the article to get it out of the main capoeira page and supports its deletion. You're free to add any references you wish. Focomoso (talk) 01:48, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake, figured this was created separate of the main capoeira page. I was rather naive in posting that comment. I am rather interested in how much Capoeira is present in popular culture. This article was rather enlightening to me. I think we should give it a second shot. There are many other articles following the "...in popular culture" subject, and this article could lead to an interesting discussion about the presence of Capoeira in society. The AfD forum seemed to agree with me, as only one person out of 9 supported its deletion. Ryt 007 (talk) 00:35, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure interesting discussions are the goal of wikipedia. I could be wrong. Articles consisting of long lists are generally frowned upon, but, as you say, the forum spoke. If you turn it into an article and not a laundry list, I'll change my stance, but for now, if it comes up for deletion again (which I suspect it will) I'm going to support it. Focomoso (talk) 07:03, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why why why create the article to get it out of the main capoeira page but support its deletion? Next time do us all a favour and do the cut but not the paste. This list of gunk could have been condensed to a couple of paragraphs to remain in the main capoeira page. --Pontificalibus (talk) 14:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proper References section formating[edit]

The three references that were originally cited were not formatted correctly. Therefore wiki might have been using that against you to say you had no references. I fixed the problem. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:09, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proper References section grammar[edit]

The three references that were originally cited were not in proper MLA format. Attempting to fix. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:11, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the last two. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:30, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gay porn reference[edit]

Did anyone notice the first reference links to a gay porn website? It talks about a bullet discussing Capoeira as a pornographic subject for many films. I am not in a position to research this currently, but will look into it later. Ryt 007 (talk) 14:35, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bob's Burgers[edit]

There was an episode of Bob's Burgers a few weeks ago where Capoeira was a central part of the episode. Someone should add that. 142.68.174.151 (talk) 20:59, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How to convert this article into something encyclopedic[edit]

It seems to me that half of these examples could be reduced to references, and used to reinforce some other point - within the main capoeira article.

For example- If someone wrote 'Capoeira has been seen in numerous movies' [1] and inserted numerous references, to individual appearances of capoeira.

The other half - where Capoeira is the central theme of a program or film should probably be allowed to exist within the main Capoeira article as noteworthy in their own right.

Another option - could be creating some sort of Category - pop culture containing capoeira, and then go and add that category tag to all the examples in this list - then delete the list.

If someone who knows how wikipedia works can give advice on what's best :) EdwardLane (talk) 21:56, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ The zombies in india jones and the crystal skull used capoeira - here's a dodgy reference [1]
