UCMJ articles in WW2 list[edit]

I don't think that the UCMJ articles in the WW2 list can be accurate - or at least our descriptions of them aren't. The majority of the codes in the list are 92, with some labelled (rape) or (murder) in brackets, whereas our key suggests article 92 covers failure to obey orders. I suspect our key is the modern UCMJ articles and there may have been changes since the war. In any case, if these soldiers were executed for a purely military offence, this would contradict what we claim in List of individuals executed by the United States#Military executions. The Uniform Code of Military Justice did not exist until after World War II. The guys who were executed during WWII must have been convicted under the Articles of War. Hildenja 12:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect link.[edit]

In the section titled "Executions during World War II", the link for "Charles H. Smith" goes to a different person with the same name.

I can't find a page for the correct person. And I'm unsure of the correct editing procedure in this case.

Already done. All redlinks and inappropriate redirects removed. The only two links remaining are for Eddie Slovik, the last US servicemember executed for Desertion, and Louis Till, former cellmate of Ezra Pound (mentioned briefly in his writing). Removed Willie Hall, Joseph Mahoney and William Lucas from list as there is a question mark over their status. They may have died in prison prior to execution. It now seems very probable they were incorrectly identified as executed.

Gaherfindahl reverting edits without explanation[edit]

Would User:Gaherfindahl care to explain why my edits are being reverted without explanation? I am an established and respected Wikipedian, not a vandal. I don't make edits without good reason.

Here is a summary of the changes that I made:

  • Changed Shepton Mallet to Shepton Mallet (HM Prison) - the latter is where the executions took place and that article contains quite a lot of detail about the executions.
  • Changed month/date wikilinks to no link e.g. June 1945 to June 1945 - Whole dates containing day/month/year should be wikilinked (See WP:MOS#Dates) as this allows the date to be formatted and displayed according to user preference, but there is nothing to be gained from linking just a month and year.
  • Changed a handful of year-only wikilinks e.g 1945 to 1945 - again the manual of style is explicit that this should only be done if it aids the readers understanding. As this article was inconsistent in its use of the links I chose to remove them all.
  • Fixed a few minor bugs e.g. commas between day/month and year wikilinks - these are superfluous as the autoformat for dates determines whether a comma is needed.

Theater of operations[edit]

Rather than European Theater I think in these WWII cases it should be the Theater of operations article European Theater of Operations (ETO) and the same for the others like Mediterranean Theater of Operations --Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 15:15, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clarified location of Francis Line's execution. He was tried in Arizona, and presumably executed in that state, not Trinidad.

Removed George Gil and Amos Thomas from list, as their convictions were overturned.

Added Robert Davidson, Clinton Stevenson, Lee. R. Davis, Solomon Thompson, Manuel Martinez and John O'Connor to list of executed soldiers.

Corrected Charles Gibson to Clarence Gibson.

Corrected dates in case of George Green, John Williams, Milbert Bailey and James Jones.

Clarified location of James Norman's execution. It was definitely in the Philippines.

Clarified location of two executions in Belgium (Holden, Spencer)

Identified method of execution (shooting) in case of Bennerman and Parker.

Submerged the Somers article into a short, more accurate article on naval executions.
