Reserve battalions[edit]

The regiment had two reserve battalions, the article is missing that information. The two reserve battalions were the 5th Battalion formed by the Governor General's Foot Guards and the 6th Battalion formed by The Canadian Grenadier Guards. Amqui (talk) 14:50, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GGFG and CGG were affiliated with the CG, but were not amalgamated into the CG. It was similar to how the Loyal Edmonton Regiment is affiliated with PPCLI, and LER has a PPCLI battalion number, but the LER is not really part of the PPCLI. Nevertheless it should be mentioned in the article. I should have time to do it in the next few days. Indefatigable (talk) 15:55, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The country's first national military regiment?[edit]

The Royal Canadian Dragoons and The Royal Canadian Regiment ceased being school corps and became regiments in 1892. The Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Royal Canadian Field Artillery and Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery were united into a single regiment, the Royal Canadian Artillery, in 1927, with English and French language units. All three of those regiments recruited from across the dominion before the Guards were a gleam in Guy Simonds's eye. So, to assert that "The Canadian Guards... was also the country's first national military regiment" is incorrect. It might be fairer to say, "The Canadian Guards not only served as the Household Division of Canada, but was also the country's first national infantry regiment with English- and French-speaking battalions."
