Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the team has reached the third round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition, playing against Portland Timbers. It is generally agreed that a team playing in the main stages of a national cup competition is automatically notable --Kafuffle (talk) 22:36, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that the group of people who played in the USOC tournament was completely different from the team that played the USASA season that year, and the USASA season the following year. "Cal FC" is not notable - this specific USOC tournament team, which happened to use the name "Cal FC" is notable. (And it should probably be added that the large number of players of the USOC tournament team went on to the USL Pro team (Atlanta Silverbacks) with the coach Eric Wynalda (who also only coached Cal FC for the USOC tournament.)
