CabotCabot (disambiguation)Cabot should redirect to John Cabot as WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Sharper {talk} 20:53, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose While John Cabot gets the most average pageviews, the various actors named Cabot and even Cabot House have gotten more pageviews than the explorer at certain points. There is no clear primary topic here, per WP:NOPRIMARY.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 21:58, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose WP:NOPRIMARY. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:09, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pageviews. I would support this move if good evidence can be presented that John Cabot is commonly referred to mononymously as "Cabot" even in contexts where his full name hasn't already been mentioned (since this is generally true of our other mononym primary redirects such as Galileo, Byron, Copernicus, Shakespeare, Shelley) Colin M (talk) 17:48, 26 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes they might not be primary even if commonly known by only their 1st name. And redirecting "Shelley" probably wasn't a good idea, while it was shown that Percy was probably primary other other individuals with the name, there's not sufficient evidence of primacy over other uses. For the rare occasion a reader wants someone with the surname a mention on the main DAB would be more than sufficient. Then again the closer of that discussion did say a new RM to put the DAB at the base name could be done. When I google Cabot the 1st non commercial result is the DAB page then John. The fact Google returns the DAB page suggests John isn't primary for people searching the singular name and note that people searching on Google are far more likely to use incomplete terms than on WP where people would be expected to use the full name or wouldn't be too surprised if it takes then a click or 2 to get the person they want. Then again Google might return the DAB 1st partly because its got the base name. I suggest there's not sufficient evidence that readers using the incomplete term want John therefore I oppose. Indeed the view stats show Sebastian Cabot (actor) gets around half the views of John and there are uses of "Cabot" (like the places) that are called "Cabot" in their own right. • Oppose insufficient evidence this is the primary topic. power~enwiki (π, ν) 18:12, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
