History[edit]

Due to a prank played by the station on students of a history class this article was edited to inform students that CKVI-FM was founded in 1896. This has been reverted and more information placed into the topic. Morril (talk) 18:12, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let's discuss what we mean by "Notable"[edit]

Okay, I am not going to continue to revert, in order to avoid violating the WP:3RR rule. But let's discuss what we mean by "notable" here. Please see WP:Notability. Also worth a read is WP:BLP.

Here is the problem: Have these former students done anything to make them public figures? If not, they still have an expectation of privacy and so they should not be listed on Wikipedia.

A good rule of thumb (though not absolute) is that if these people do not warrant a Wikipedia article, then you should ask yourself twice whether they are really "notable" alumni. In this case, I say a definite NO. Remember, this is for famous people, not just people who went on to go to radio school. --Jaysweet (talk) 21:16, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Justin Burrows is a successful teenager who has made himself notable in the radio industry by working for two radio stations in the area all from the experience of CKVI-FM and Ryan and Wendy both work for K-Rock 1057 in Kingston and were grads from the program, they are both well known and respected in Kingston. And anyone in radio in Eastern Ontario know who Justin Burrows is. --Striker1057 (talk) 21:48, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read WP:Notability like I asked you to? Also, if Justin Burrows is so notable, you should be able to provide a reliable source discussing his work, don't you think? --Jaysweet (talk) 21:51, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried but there is nothing because of the small area that he has worked in. And I will continue to look has he get going in the radio industry and add it. He is only 17! I don't expect there to be massive articles about him! --Striker1057 (talk) 21:55, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. And would you expect there to be an encyclopedia article about him? --Jaysweet (talk) 21:57, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please note that Wikipedia is not a crystal ball (are you even reading these policy links I am sending you?), so just because Burrows might become notable does not mean that Wikipedia needs material about him right now. If he becomes famous, then he'll be covered by the encyclopedia at that point. --Jaysweet (talk) 21:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then he doesn't get a Wikipedia article. Them's the rules. You can't write an article here, or list him as a notable alum, on the basis that he might become notable or famous in the future — if he's not notable now, then he doesn't belong here at all. If he becomes notable at a later date, then he can have an article and be listed here. Bearcat (talk) 00:33, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway, I am logging off now. I have left the current and former radio personalities, because at least there you have made some assertion of notability. I do not think the list should be there, but I do not want to risk violating the three-revert rule. Best of luck. --Jaysweet (talk) 22:00, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any questions in regards to notability can be emailed to Bullackp@limestone.on.ca or ckvi.limstone.on.ca . This also can go for any review of information posted upon its page. Morril (talk) 18:08, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
