Focus and View[edit]

This article does seriously suffer from a filtered view and incomplete focus, probably caused by many of its authors coming from a fraternity Background. I am not accusing anyone of POV writing here - though not a Burschenschafter, I come from such a background myself - but in (German) fraternity circles the fraternal aspect of the Urburschenschaft is often unduly emphasized over its more relevant socio-economic and political angle.

The Burschenschaft movement started out as a political student movement working for both democratic reforms in mostly feudal Germany and national unity, and it is this phase that has massiveley influenced German history and left traces that we can still see today.

Its later history - when the movement basically devolved into yet another fraternity association - is still worthwhile and relevant (since those fraternities shaped generations of democratic politicians), but tends to be overemphasized by "official" histography as done in fraternity circles. The German wiki article does give more background on what Burschenschaften are and how they are perceived. The right-wing angle is glossed over in the current English version. Feketekave (talk) 18:50, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rituals and Customs[edit]

I think a section about rituals (Mensur of the "fighting Burschenschaften" should be mentioned at least) would be important. I myself don't know enough about them, sorry... -- megA (talk) 10:41, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

I have removed the mention of Burschenschaft Olympia. In my opinion, mentioning only a single Organisation isn't improving an article about hundreds of them.

Members[edit]

I delete the Pope, because he was NOT member of a Burschenschaft, but of a catholic fraternity. Maybe also other "notable members" were not Burschenschafters, but members of other types of fraternities. --93.204.70.125 (talk) 16:45, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
