Demographics[edit]

...they renamed the town after its president, Algernon S. Buford....

STD study[edit]

Buford STD Scare

A recent study showed that Buford's high schools and middle schools had STD rates ten times higher than the national average. One in five seventh graders in the city has Chlamydia, Herpes, or Syphilis. 60% of graduating seniors last year had HIV/AIDS. Buford's School Board has yet to respond to this news.[1] Buford's School Board has yet to respond to this news.

The information about the proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases in the city was found in a respected medical journal and presented as neutrally as possible. I used only statistics and facts. I disagree with its addition to the article as I think it is undue weight on a negative event. Your use of the word "scare" is not a neutral point of view. Reviewing your edit history, you seem to have a negative view on several topics. I suggest that review Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. -- Gogo Dodo (talk)

I agree with Gogo Dodo. If this article was much longer then it would be appropriate to add such a specific negative detail, but at the moment the article is very short and your "scare" jeopardizes the neutrality of the article. You are welcome to research more information about Buford, Georgia and lengthen the article a lot, but only then is it appropriate to add this detail. Your recent activity on both of your accounts (that I know of) displays ignorance to many of Wikipedia's fundamental values. This article desperately needs a section on the government structure of Buford, GA. I don't know enough about it yet to make this entry. If someone does, jump in.

Tips for improving to a B quality scale rating.[edit]

Just a few thoughts, but not an exhaustive review. First, Notable people should be moved off to a List of people from Buford, Georgia page. You can do a simple one like this example; or shoot for a the gold standard like this example.

Second, the history section is way too short for a city. I know it may be hard to find some good history, but for a B article, "Readers are not left wanting", and this history section leaves me wanting. --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 22:28, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Gwinnett County in the US State of Georgia, and my goal is to get the article of every city in Gwinnett County, Georgia improved as much as possible. Beyond that, where I am physically located is not relevant to the improvement of this article. If you have reliable sources that back up a claim that Lake Lanier Islands is "not in Buford", by all means please present it, but the official website lists it as being in Buford, as do plenty of other sources. - SudoGhost 01:56, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I respect that and I respect you alot for helping out the pages, I take care of the Braselton page myself due to me living in Gwinnett and in Braselton. Majority of companies and housing and businesses say that they're in a certain city, but are actually in a different one or are in unincorporated county. Being in Braselton, we're currently in 4 zip codes (30548, 30517, 30519, 30542) and in 4 counties (Gwinnett, Barrow, Hall, Jackson)and to be able to decipher if a company, business, or neighborhood is in our Town limits or not, I use the google search engine. Everything within the white dotted dashes (almost up to date, up to 2010-11) is within the Town/ City you are looking at. This also goes for ZIP Codes. Well I think that ultimately comes down to the question of "how do you define in Buford or any other city? Is it defined by the legal city limits, or by mailing address or other criteria? I'm inclined to think that reliable sources tend to use the latter. For example, although the Mall of Georgia is just barely outside of the city limits, the Gwinnett Daily Post describes it as the "Buford mall"[[2][3] and does the same with Lake Lanier Islands.[4][5] I'm looking into where Google gets that data from, and how up-to-date the data is, because that does tend to change rather frequently. - SudoGhost 05:23, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've lived in the Town for about 8 years now and I know the council members and mayor well and I go to all the meetings and study the Town daily, also my parent was a cop for the Town and also for Flowery branch for a while. I love learning about Towns and what consist of them! Zip codes/ Mailing addresses is a pretty inaccurate source for learning what city its in due to the Government/ USPS being the ones that say who that company, residence, or business gets it mail from if they like it or not. Most cities have their own city maps available to the public and i've been told by city officials that Google Maps is the best way to look at it since they usually update about every year to two years. Most counties wont allow businesses or "money making" businesses or stadiums annex into cities due to the county wanting the tax and say on that specific building or stadium (as seen in Duluth). By the way, I was trying to add the Town logo to the Braselton page but i'm unsure how and i've looked at the help section trying to add it to the page but it doesn't explain very well, do you know how? Ownership of page[edit]

It seems that some feel they are the "owner" of this page. Please don't auto-undo every change on this page. To quote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Ownership_of_articles there is this segment:

"This page in a nutshell: No one "owns" an article or any page at Wikipedia. If you create or edit an article, others can make changes, and you cannot prevent them from doing so. In addition, you should not undo their edits without good reason. Disagreements should be calmly resolved, starting with a discussion on the article talk page."

I have been trying to start a section of movies filmed in Buford as I believe it would be interesting to those with an interest in the community. However I can't get the section to stay a day without it being hit with an "undo". I've tried to address every objection (cited source, etc) yet "undo" keeps getting hit. I'd rather instead of an undo, we have a discussion, and ultimately if agreed upon fill the list with other movies filmed here. For future reference, it helps to start the discussion once it is known there is a disagreement with the content, rather than throwing around accusations when your content was removed, as it created a serious imbalance in the article because there was no cause to single out that one film just because you personally saw it being filmed. - Aoidh (talk) 06:50, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't singling out one film. Was starting with that with the hopes of expanding it. I had tried to address ever concern you had. (IMDB not reliable, Not "Social media", etc.) It wasn't until your last comment that I actually understood your concern. A note on reference 47, it's using the cite conference parameter like other laws referenced on Wikipedia, but the issue with GALILEO is I can't link to a URL because it's behind a login and the way they have it setup it that it navigates through some window within the page, so the URL is the same for everything within GALILEO, the only URL I'd be able to link is galileo.usg.edu as that's the URL displayed when accessing the content. Attempting to dig into that window and provide a clearer URL gives this kind of error - Aoidh (talk) 22:21, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
