Untitled[edit]

who was the original author of budgie? i believe it was a short story called the taxman written by a glaswegian who was living in cambridge when THE TAXMAN was put on paper, the original draft he wrote overnight on the leaves of an unknown novel and finished up the next morning scribbled across various scraps and bits of paper he could reach without moving too far from the bed without leaving the room the pencil he used to scribble furiously was drawing out the story about the tax he levied on people who dared to leave doors unlocked or windows off the latch allowing the taxman to penalise them for their carelessness!!!. This was finally scratched onto some decent paper and lay in an envelope for a couple of years; when a casual walk along the river with his daughters chanced in a meeting with a lady of mature years who owned and lived on a converted landing craft called XANADU he helped her to put her shopping on the deck then lifted her bike aboard, this chance meeting led to weekend walks with the girls who loved to scramble onto XANADU and play. there were occasions when older children cut the moorings and XANADU and its owner were found to be drifting along the river cam: to avoid this going on i brought some long lengths of chain which replaced the worn out ropes and from then on she felt a lot more secure. in time i found out she had worked as an assistant and secretary to a publishing firm in london i told her i tried to write a story; she asked to read it! and said she'd show it to her friend in london. he read it and sent back some instructions and changes to work on I was young and not as enthusiastic as i could have been and it was some weeks before i completed the task, easter weekend and the paperwork went to her friend,as she was away i would check XANADU when i got to her craft she was back from london upset and in tears her friend had died; "I had to leave as his family were coming" realising the situation i felt she never married: her friend was her lover,, and now she was alone. the paperwork lay in a drawer for a couple of years! an advert in the news of the world caught my attention::: send your manuscripts short stories poems and verse fo free evaluation 'with a stamped adressed envelope' we will return your paperwork to you.. I sent it all off and never heard of it again--- a couple of years later my wife told me that my story was on television and Adam Faith was playing the lead part and it was called Budgie — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.22.65.248 (talk) 12:06, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Original title[edit]

From the episodes on youtube, the original title of the show may have been "The Loser", based on the name on the Clapperboard. This would suit Adam Faith's character in the show.(185.8.243.175 (talk) 20:13, 2 March 2020 (UTC))[reply]
