Cleanup[edit]

I tagged this article for cleanup because a huge portion of this article reads like a music review and is very unecyclopedic. The use of first and second person narrative and peacock language are the biggest offenders. --PullUpYourSocks 22:42, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While I only just stumbled onto this page now, I'd say it is still in serious need of cleanup. It is rife with original research, weasel words and peacock terms, not to mention unsourced factual statements. --Misterwindupbird 19:49, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citation Requests[edit]

It seems rather silly to request a citation proving he is on the Vice Records single when Wikipedia lists him as being on there. That article should do. I provided the Feist video and an album review. There are a few interviews, reviews and bios that mention his Sesame Street appearance [1] [2] [3]. Please choose the one that you find to be most relevant. --JohnCameron 03:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I STARTED[edit]

Damn that was a lot of work. I redid and expanded the bio, structured it, etc. The albums should all be reviews, seperate from this, with graphics. The reviews are reviews, not encyclopedic. They all need to be re-written.

But its a long way from done. Future topics can include - how unbelieveably important Bucks Language arts were to intelligent or underground HH, how fans of that work are by and large not happy wiht his last two records.

And all the darn reviews moved OUT.

Bed time for me WayeMason

The plan for Buck 65...[edit]

Please do not be alarmed, I am moving all the unedited record reviews into seperate articles. No information has been deleted from wikipedia, just moved and edited.

All the reviews are linked from the discography.

BASEBALL[edit]

So, is there no truth to the baseball scouting story?

Just wondering, as I was surprised to see this story described as rumour. Granted, I have not been able to find any evidence of the validity of this story. I'll keep looking.

Lack of references[edit]

There are a lot of claims in this article about the artist's fame, but little in the way of references proving this. There need to be links to reviews or other third-party articles about the artist to prove his notability, otherwise the article should probably be nominated for deletion. --Elonka 18:09, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, how many reviews do you need? All Music Guide should have you covered. --JohnCameron 03:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

influences[edit]

"Terfry has said his influences include MC Shan, David Lynch, J.V.C. FORCE, John Galliano, Gitche Manitou, and Kool Keith."

Yet it's blindingly obvious his influences are Tom Waits and Woodie Guthrie. Not suggesting this should be put in the article, just mentioning for those who read the talk page. Apologies if this is inapropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.35.97.174 (talkcontribs) 05:43, October 31, 2006)

this is somewhat true for talking honky blues and releases after that, but releases prior to that are much more in the vein of straight-up hip hop. also, if buck claims these as his influences, who are we to contradict him? --Kaini 20:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A FEW RANDOM RAMBLINGS[edit]

While I'm happy to see a Wikipedia entry for Buck 65, there are a few things I might be able to add and/or clean up.

First, I have great faith in his story about being scouted by the majors to play baseball. It might sound a bit far-fetched in a way, but he was talking about this as far back as the release of Game Tight. I reviewed his album back then and part of the press package was a photocopy of an early form that had his baseball coach grading him on each aspect of the game. While that doesn't guarantee the rumours are true, it does add some credence to them, as does his constant references to baseball. Unfortunately, with the scout having died and not mentioning it to anyone else as his little secret, it's pretty much Buck's word against the world. And sadly, he is known to make up stories, such as where the name Buck 65 comes from.

On that topic, there is no way the name Buck 65 came from a 65 Buick, especially the one he's been telling more recently regarding being named by an auctioneer. Buck was rapping under the names Haslam and Stinkin' Rich long before he started using Buck 65 as a rap name. So, the fact that an auctioneer taught him to rap and gave him the name 65 Buick (which later got distorted on a show flyer to Buck 65) is preposterous. If the name ever came from a 65 Buick, it would have had to have been his father's car. However, he humbly admitted in an interview back in 1995 to Boognish fanzine (you can find the interview in the Boognish section of www.handsolorecords.com) that it wasn't very exciting but he was named Buck since he was a young child and that he added the 65 because his weight was 165. To add to that, Sixtoo took his name from his height. It all fits together, eh?

Also, Chin Music was Buck's first solo release, but prior to that he was working with Haltown Projex as one of the founding members, which also included Witchdoc Jorun, Bonshah, Badi (aka Tallisman of Plains of Fascination), Bonshah, Project KVA and Shingai. They released a bunch of songs on Jorun's Haltown Meltdown tapes and were supposed to have released a debut cassette but I'm not sure if that ever came out... When he was working with Haltown Projex, he was going by the name of Haslam. He also recorded a few solo tracks under that name. When the group disbanded because everyone wanted more control, Haslam took the name Stinkin' Rich and put out Chin Music.

Finally, nothing is mentioned of Buck's association with Hand'Solo Records. After Game Tight was released on Murderecords, Buck started working with Hand'Solo Records a bit. The first release from Hand'Solo Records was Bassments of Badmen (1996), a compiliation which featured a few tracks from Stinkin' Rich. These were the first tracks where he actually started referencing his production monicker Buck 65, releasing the tracks as "Buck 65 featuring Stinkin' Rich." It wouldn't be until the first Sebutones record that he started using Buck 65 as his MC name. After his appearances on Bassments of Badmen, he released a 12" with Hand'Solo Records for his trilogy of tracks "The Wildlife" (1998). This 12" was also listed as "Buck 65 featuring Stinkin' Rich." Around the same time, the Sebutonedef 12" dropped and the Stinkin' Rich monicker was phased out. In 1998, Buck 65 also released a couple of exclusive tracks on Hand'Solo Records' Cock Dynamiks sex compilation, one under the name Uncle Climax, an old track as Stinkin' Rich, and a collaborative track with Tachichi using the name Uncle Climax. The Cock Dynamiks compilation was re-released in 2005 on CD from Hand'Solo Records and is still available.

So, hopefully some of this information will help to fill out this entry a little more accurately. I've added a few small bits of info already, but I'm not confident with my skills at wikipedia editing to attempt any bigger changes.

If anyone is willing to make the fixes, there's the info...

...huh, I always thought it was Buck 65 because $1.65 was the bus fare in Halifax for ages. Now it's two dollars, but that's another story. 24.222.65.225 02:56, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Buck 65 On Zed[edit]

CBC television used to have this late night show called Zed and Buck 65 performed a song on it where scracthed and rapped. How about a section of apperances he has made? Mr. C.C. 06:35, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Situation[edit]

The album Situation came out already; the page still says "it is scheduled to come out in....".

Pretty much, the "New Releases" section just needs to be cleaned up. The Situation wiki page itself is up to date; it could just be copied/pasted... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.157.192.24 (talk) 23:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shattered Dreams & Broken Crossfaders[edit]

There's no way the date listed for the release of that bootleg is correct. It couldn't have come out at that date with those songs since a number of those songs weren't released until much later. In 1995, SicSexEd didn't even exist as a persona for Little T/Tachichi, and those songs wouldn't appear until Cock Dynamiks was released in 1998.

Besides, I don't even think this is a real release but a fan-made compilation that doesn't deserve to be on this page anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DoogieHowitzer (talkcontribs) 18:24, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok based on that I moved it here to the talk, if anyone can verify that it's actually a legit release, put it back out.

Situation, Theft section fix, Dirtbike 1/3[edit]

I totally redid the Situation section. I removed the "theft" section as I don't think it is that relevant. I wanted to put in that he's working on a DVD, but couldn't think of where. We could use some work on the Situation section itself, maybe add another few lines describing the album or going into detail about the 1957 theme.

See the changes here: [4]

External links[edit]

Per WP:EL policy around linkfarming, the external links section of an article should only contain two or three of the most immediately relevant and central ELs, such as the artist's official website. Interviews and articles in other media are valid to cite as references for article content, where appropriate, but should not simply be added as plain, uncontextualized external links, as our job is not to become a web directory of all pages with any mention of Buck 65 whatsoever.

The following links may be readded to the article as references where appropriate, but are not suitable as ELs:

Removal of Kerrang! controversy Section[edit]

The amount of controversy here is very suspect, and not sure whether this is something that should actually be deemed controversial enough to be in his Wikipedia page.

In particular since the impression of Sage Francis is not likely current, since Francis provided distribution for Buck 65's 2007 album through his company Strange Famous Records, after those comments came out. http://grandgood.com/2007/08/02/sage-francis-and-buck-65-join-forces/

Going to remove the section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.115.251.55 (talk) 06:18, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
