Eight islands in Poole Harbour[edit]

From the article's lede:

Brownsea Island is the largest of eight islands in Poole Harbour

I know of Brownsea Island, Furzey Island, Green Island, Long Island, and Round Island. What are the other three?. -- Chris j wood 11:15, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The remaining three are: Giggis Island lies in the West of the Harbour near the river Piddle outlet. Pergis Island lies to the North of the Harbour in the Holes Bay. Finally Drove Island to the south of the Harbour is in Brands Bay. LordHarris 14:24, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

history of the island[edit]

I can't see when or how the island became the property of the National Trust. Apepper 18:03, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quote[edit]

Is it really necessary? Doesn't it seem a little POV-y to anyone else? I'm planning to remove it if there's no objections. --Absenteeist 03:26, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Enid Blyton[edit]

An island described in her Famous Five novel series is accepted as more than analagous to Brownsea, with references of "whispering trees" and a "wailing cliff". I am thinking of adding a paragraph on this. GerixAu (talk) 07:35, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a source which explicitly states this? PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 07:38, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Scouts[edit]

I am changing some text, as it's plain wrong. "Scouts" in the "Boy Scout" sense of the word did not exist when that first camp was held. (Similarly, Jesus was not a Christian, for it was only after his death that "the followers of Jesus first called themselves "Christians" (Acts 11.26) in Antioch")

Transfer of the Island to the National Trust/John Lewis Partnership[edit]

It is my understanding that the reason why the John Lewis Partnership was allowed to lease the castle/house as a hotel is that they donated some of the funds needed to allow the island to be transitioned to the control of the National trust. But I don't have a public reference for this to allow it to be put into the main article. Any references? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:B378:AC00:4557:7D54:813A:1A3 (talk) 23:56, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
