In the article, the Brooklyn Museum's exterior picture is from June 2005, I took two pictures of the exterior of the Brooklyn Museum as it stands February 2007. Should I go ahead and add the picture in the place of the previous picture? --PaladinHero1 01:30, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? If it more accurate and/or better composed. Of the present picture, while it is decent, 'm not fond of most of the facade of the building being in shadow. Also, the camera was slightly tilted, which I find disquieting. (My humble opinion). — Gosgood 14:32, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New York City Meetup[edit]

The agenda for the next meetup includes the formation of a Wikimedia New York City local chapter. It will also be a great opportunity to photograph some of the Brooklyn Museum's collection. Hope to see you there!--Pharos 17:31, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New York City Wikipedian Meetup November 16[edit]

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, finalize and approve bylaws, interact with representatives from the Software Freedom Law Center, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the June meeting's minutes and the September meeting's minutes).

We'll also review our recent Wikis Take Manhattan event, and make preparations for our exciting successor Wikipedia ♥ Art bonanza, being planned with the Brooklyn Museum for February.

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

Digital Programs[edit]

The museum has a variety of interesting digital projects and programs, some involved with Wikipedia like Wikipedia Loves Art, WikiPop and their own online catalogue which encourages users to tag and organize the objects as they see fit. Additionally, they were one of the first American museums to release a free mobile iOS app (June 2010). I'd like to include this information under "Programs" rather than "populist directions" because iPhone Apps are becoming standard, and it seems as these museum accessibility programs are separate from curatorial decisions that could be labeled 'populist'. --Daedalus042 (talk) 20:33, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Working with the Brooklyn Museum to improve this article[edit]

Following on our previous cooperative efforts, we were contacted by the Brooklyn Museum about ways to improve the quality of this still shortish article, in ethical keeping with our guidelines (and as we did earlier with the Jewish Museum). I suggested that they send us some background notes which would:

let us know what clear inaccuracies or omissions there may be
aid us in improving the overall quality of the article by pointing us to a few published sources that we can use to build up a good summary of the museum's work and history.

I've gotten a good response from them, and I will shortly start integrating some of the material pointed out in their background notes, and I hope other folks can help us to improve this further. Size[edit]

Looks like the information on the size of the Museum was incorrect saying we were the second largest art museum in the city.

Met = 2,000,000 square feet. MoMA = 630,000 square feet Brooklyn = 560,000 square feet

Populism section[edit]

The section Populism, while relatively balanced, is based almost entirely on a single newspaper article^[1] that analyzes attendance patterns at the museum through subjective opinions, pro and con, regarding the museum's exhibition program. As such, the section mainly documents perspectives about the museum's management policies of that moment, rather than established consensus about its history, collections or audience. Lehman is no longer director of the museum.

The fact-based frame for the section--the decline in attendance during a period in time--is undermined by the museum's attendance subsequent to the date of article (e.g., 540,000 in 2014).^[2] Museum attendance is inherently variable.

I suggest the section be deleted.
