13 March 2013[edit]

Mysteriously, the ERP at this site was boosted by 12dB from October 2012 until 13 March 2013. No explanation given. I will guess that viewers experienced cross-channel interference on the HD multiplex "BBC B" on channel 50 coming from Mynydd Emroch about 5 km away. This would have only affected some viewers - ones to the far west of the reception area.

Mynydd Emroch's channel 50 is due to move to channel 40 on 13 March 2013. No other transmitter in reasonable range would seem to overlap any of Briton Ferry's frequencies. So the cross-channel interference must be expected to stop with Mynydd Emroch's retune event, and Briton Ferry is expected no longer to need the +12db boost.

Why boost all of Briton Ferry's channels if only channel 50 was experiencing trouble is beyond me though. Notice that Mynydd Emroch's other two channels are also co-channel with Briton Ferry and will remain so after the retune event. So it's not them that are causing the need for the ERP change. Channel 50 is the only DVB-T2 channel on both sites though. Steve Hosgood (talk) 17:11, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
