Who fled where when?[edit]

The article seems to contradict itself regarding the volcanic eruptions and subsequent migrations involving Brava. The first two sections state:

First settled in the 1540s, its population grew after Mount Fogo on neighbouring Fogo erupted in 1675.

and

Brava has no documented historical eruptions

but the section on the history, says:

In 1680, the inhabitants fled to the nearby large island of Fogo after the volcano erupted and lava began to flow and devastate.

Should this last section read: "...fled from the nearby large island..."? Kutulu (talk) 18:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch! :) I suppose so, but since I don't know about that myself I wouldn't like to give you my word on that. But everything seems to point that way, yes. --Waldir talk 21:25, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can confirm that the proper preposition is "from" and not "to." I lived on Fogo for two years, and am very familiar with Brava. The eruption that is being referred to is an eruption on Fogo, whose eponymous volcano is the only active volcano in the archipelago. Obviously, then, Brava has not had an eruption, nor even an active volcano, in its recorded history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.215.42.145 (talk) 04:45, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Economy[edit]

The passage which reads "The airline service ended in 2004. Brava never had tourism. Tourism slowly boomed. The island is unsuitable for beach tourism because the steep shoreline allows few beaches" needs some cleaning up. It contradicts itself in more than one place. First it states that Brava never had tourism, then it immediately proceeds to tell us that it did during the unspecified period in which it "slowly boomed."

And that phrase in and of itself is a contradiction in terms. If an industry experiences a boom-time, that precludes it from slowly developing. Because, of course, it's a boom.

I suspect that whoever wrote this speaks either Kriolu (the common language in Cape Verde) or the official Portuguese, so that may explain the confusion with English. It's a good try, but it didn't come out quite right.
