Brad Delp's voice has been one of the key factors for Boston over the years. Along with Tom Scholz's unique guitar sound, Brad Delp's powerful vocal range has been regarded as one of the greatest of all time. On the liner notes on the recently released re-master of Boston's debut album, Tom Scholz credits the addition of Delp's vocals as being the element that finally gained the interest of executives at Epic Records.

Brad Delp - Found dead.[edit]

I think the intent of Wikipedia is to provide factual info. Whether you have opinions about depression or what is appropriate is really not relevant. He died of carbon dioxide asphyxiation from 2 charcoal grills set up in a bathroom with him. By the way, "he married Mickey Delp" should really read "He married Mickey ????, wife of Boston guitarist, Barry Goudreau" Maybe someone can help fill in this detail. 72.131.15.126 06:01, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The most informative and insightful report I've seen came from Boston Herald, which offers a insights from Brad's ex-wife and fiance, bits of info not seen elsewhere (ie the riffs between the band members, which Brad was caught in the middle of). I think that the detail of Brad's death and the content of his notes should be left out. Just say that he committed suicide and that the note left for his family seem to indicate that he suffed for depression. BTW I live in the Boston area and the Inside Track is just the local version of the National Enquierer(sp) and is NOT a relable source and should not be a resource for this article.

Reply: Fully agreed on the contents of the personal notes ...none of our biz. My comment above was concerning the state of the inter band member relations, and particularly as it concerned Brad, and his fate. Also noted is the insight into the Inside Track's reputation, or lack thereof, since I am not familiar w/ them...... nor a NI (or alike) fan.

Reply: All I am saying is don't go by this particular source in concerning why Brad was depressed,thats all.

There's a very old article(circa 1978) in Rolling Stone in which descirbed Delp as having a "hang dog expression that usually hovers around glumness".I don't know it that would be useful.it can be found on Gonna Hitch a Ride under "articles".24.62.51.20 13:06, 16 April 2007 (UTC)BF84[reply]

To clarify, although this article doesn't deal directly with Delp's suicide,it(IMO at least)seems to contradict the recent claims that tension in the band caused Delp's depression.24.62.51.20BF84

Birthplace[edit]

Beverly DNE Danvers! How can you have those two side by side!!

FWIW, all the Boston media list it as Danvers. Also graduated from Danvers High. I haven't heard him mention Beverly, even once.

I don't know if this would go here.I was just on a site called Gonna Hitch a Ride which had some old interview with Brad.On on of them,with Uncle Joe Benson,Brad mentioned that his family was orignially form Canada and that his father played the fiddle.He also mention that at the time he met Tom he was studing Liberal Arts at a community college( he didn't say the name of the college though).Just some tidbits I'd thought I'd add.I miss him so much!:( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.51.20 (talk • contribs)

I would like to offer my help in adding and editing information on Brad Delp. As one of Brad's closest friends I feel I can be an outstanding source of facts, not rumor, supposition or unsubstantiated urban legend type comments. Is it possible to get editing priveledges? I'd like to make sure my friend's memory is accurately documented.

BTW... Micki Boone was Brad's wife's maiden name, (public record)

Also, would it be relevant to mention that a new non profit trust has been set up by Brad's family? The Brad Delp Foundation has just been formed and registered to provide support for the charitable organizations that Brad supported during his life, as well as music scholarships and grants.

I'm a huge fan of Brad, and I'm devestated to learn, through Wikipedia, that he died two years ago. Two years ago, and I didn't even know! His McCartney-inspired honey-vocals will be much missed - he was, quite simply, one of the great rock vocalists of all time. RIP, Brad. The page says Delp tried out for the band in 1969 and got the job immediately, but it also says he was working some other gig until 1970 when he met the other band members. This seems like a contradiction... any more info? 66.168.63.139 12:02, 21 September 2007 (UTC) I merely want to add to Mr Delp's vocals; some reviewer like a Jack Kroll, for instance, descriribed Brad's fabulous voice perfectly as a " muscular tenor"! I do not think anyone could have said it better: " Muscular Tenor". Rock Tenor at its finest! His skills were tantamount to Ann Wilson's female rock voice in her muscular and, like Brad inimitable, muscular voice. 'Twould they had the opportunity to perform together before he departed! What a talent! Sorry I do not know for certain who coined the phrase for Mr Delp's vocals. I do know it was a review of "Boston". Hope you can use to update his abbreviated life story! Death portion of article seems very incomplete[edit]

While I can appreciate not wanting to go into a lot of tabloid detail, this article seems to be missing quite a bit of information with respect to Delp's death and the defamation suit that was covered pretty extensively in the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. Wikipedia is supposed to be an information source, and NPOV does not mean that relevant details discussed in reputable newspapers should be omitted from articles. Hello - I wanted to note that none of the events regarding Delp's 2007 death, including the subsequent legal disputes between Tom Scholz and the Boston Herald/Miki Delp, are currenly NOT referenced on Tom Scholz's wiki-page. If all the facts are accurate, including the referenced 2016 court rulings by the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, and requests to be presented to the USSC seem appropriate to be mentioned on Scholz's page. The article doesn't even mention that Delp discovered that he had discovered his girlfriend was cheating on him and the fact that it was discovered that Delp had covertly set up a spy cam on his fiancee's sister. The omission of these facts, all revealed by The Boston Globe and readily sourceable, create the inference that Tom Scholz's conduct was the only significant stressor in Delp's life. The ommission of these facts creates a nearly slanderous contention (Sellpink (talk) 17:03, 26 March 2017 (UTC)).[reply]


In my honest opinion, I think the death section is too long compared to the music section. In an article about a musician you would not expect half the page to be about his suicide. Suicide - translation[edit]
