Speedy decline[edit]

I've declined speedy because the article says his research has been featured in Newsweek, on the CBS Evening News, on 20/20, and on National Public Radio, thus asserting notability. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 02:36, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A quick googlenews search shows that in this case there is indeed substantial newscoverage[1], including the places mentioned in the article such as Newsweek[2], CBS News[3], NPR[4], etc. One just needs to expand the article and add references to it for verification, but plenty of sources covering this guy do exist. Retraction[edit]

There's been a recent retraction of Brad Bushman's controversial 2012 article "Boom, Headshot!?" from Communication Research. The article had concluded that playing first-person shooters with hand controllers (traditional joystick controllers, not aiming controllers) improved the players' aiming accuracy with real guns. The article was challenged by two doctors from other universities who discovered statistical irregularities which suggested the data had been skewed, and an OSU investigation committee learned that the original research records had already been destroyed. Bushman has since replicated the study, and the results are currently in review.

I don't think this is remotely a "scandal", since there's no proof of (or accusation of) professional misconduct. However, it seems notable enough to include, given that lawyers have previously used this article to make arguments about video games and safety. The only reason I know about this retraction is that we work at the same university and I discovered an early article in news media which described it. However, I don't think the article counts as an RS, and I'm not an expert editor so I avoid editing on BLP except for typos and wording.
