Bovidae in culture versus myth[edit]

Unlike e.g. "Monkeys in Chinese culture", I wouldn't feel safe with *"Bovidae in Chinese culture" without being prepared to include a lot of veterinarian information. Dcattell (talk) 21:38, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, Move, or renovate[edit]

This article has barely changed since its original in 2015. At least the original mentioned a little bit about mythology. This article is so focused on the taxonomy indicated by "Bovidae" that it's completely forgot what it's about. I'm going to add a little bit to try to kick it into gear, but what I really want is for all of this scientific nonsense to be erased- because it doesn't belong here. That belongs in articles related to the animals themselves, like Bovidae, or Pere David's deer, or List of mammals of China. What this article is supposed to be about is mythology; oral and written literature and religion. And it's not. I think it should be deleted. But there is worth in understanding hoofed animals in Chinese mythology and religion for its own article, but I think it should be "Ruminants in Chinese mythology" or "Hoofed animals in Chinese mythology". This would allow horses, deer, camels, and mythological mish-mashed creatures in here (and really, qilin aren't actually bovids. They fall out of the taxonomic system for real creatures of Earth). Otherwise, let's erase a good portion of the science-blah, leaving only a little bit necessary for categorization (or we could just call them goats, sheep, cattle, etc) and then fill it to the brim with Chinese lore.Wacape (talk) 07:27, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
