Maybe the people link is too weak. You should stick to people recognized. But this is only my opinion. You don't tell anything to anybody this way.

Eminescu and Botosani[edit]

As far as I remember from Romanian Literature manual from highschool, Eminescu was born in Botosani and grew up in Ipotesti.

Etymology[edit]

Another possible origin of the name is that of a Mongol chief, Batu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, who occupied this region in the 13th century.

That's a very unlikely etymology. I am not aware of any other Mongol placenames anywhere in Romania and the Romanian ending -ani makes it even more unlikely. If anyone finds a reliable source mentioning it (see Wikipedia:Attribution), it can be readded. bogdan 15:58, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I remember reading about the Batu Khan hypothesis in a Romanian history book as a youth, so it does exist, unfortunately I cannot yet remember the name of the author :( Gabrieli (talk) 08:43, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
