Was he a Jew?[edit]

Since he wa a Holocaust survivor, was he a Jew? If not, which category of Holocaust victims does he belong to? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:20, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the sources I read, he is not called a "Jew". If he had been Jewish, he would have been murdered by Nazi Germany, not just deported to do forced labour. But sources call him a "Holocaust survivor". Rsk6400 (talk) 11:36, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are two senses in the word Holocaust: 1) the extermination of Jews by Nazis, 2) all the murders in Nazi camps. The first is more often seen in English, I believe, but the second is also occasionally used. Wikisaurus (talk) 11:44, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I looked again and the article on Holocaust survivors does admit that "In some cases, non-Jews who also experienced collective persecution under the Nazi regime are also considered Holocaust survivors." Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:29, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
