Picture[edit]

The text with the picture is incorrect: the frescoes are NOT in the buildings on top of the pyramid. The (single) building that contains the pictures is located on the right-hand side outside the current picture frame, you can just see the steps leading up to it. Dates given in Temple of the Murals section[edit]

The article gives 9.17.16.3.12 as January 12, 787. This would be correct IF one uses proleptic Gregorian calendar and the 584285 correlation. Using the GMT correlation and the Julian calendar (used by astronomers) this would be January 6.
9.17.16.3.8 is converted to January 4, A.D. 787. This would be correct IF one was using the Julian calendar and the 584285 correlation. Using the Julian calendar and the GMT correlation this would be January 2. Notice that the two k'in coefficients in the Long Counts differ by four days but the dates differ by eight days. This is the result of using the two different European calendars.
9.17.9.11.14 is converted to July 25, A.D. 780. This would be correct IF one was using the Julian calendar and the 584285 correlation. Using the Julian calendar and the GMT correlation this would be July 23.
So these dates are questionable.
According to Aveni, the Bonampak murals depict a war against Tikal that was timed to coincide with a heliacal rising of Venus (9.18.1.15.10) and a zenith passage of the sun on 9.18.1.15.5 which he converts using the Julian calendar and 584285 correlation to to August 2, 792 (July 31 GMT). The stone in the ball court also has inscriptions that seem to use astronomical phenomena to commemorate the deeds of Lord Kan II and his grandfather Lord Water. At least those interested in archaeoastronomy can study this if the articles give Long Counts. If anyone has the original reference, it would be worthwhile to check the first date.
