Page name[edit]

I think this page should be moved to Bob Marley & The Wailers discography. I'm not sure what spelling of & The Wailers should be used ("and" or "&", "the or "The" Wailers). The same goes for Category:Bob Marley albums. Teklund 15:53, 25 April 2006 (UTC)\[reply]

Since the page about Bob Marley & The Wailers uses an ampersand in its title rather than the word "and", wouldn't it be more appropriate to move this page to Bob Marley & The Wailers discography for consistency? -- Eddyspeeder (talk) 11:26, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, for consistency reasons. And the use of "&" does seem to be the accepted way of writing "Bob Marley & The Wailers" so it should be in line with WP:MOS#Article titles.5BR.5D. – IbLeo(talk) 07:41, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to Beej2k6, this discussion was brought into its proper context, which shows there has been a previous discussion on exactly the same issue in 2006, but later that year someone else changed it back without discussing it. So "earlier concensus" is a good third reason (and the fourth is: no one argued it should stay where it is). So I moved it. Official vs. unofficial discography[edit]

"Soul Shakedown Party" has been released several times as a single. It seems the album Soul Shakedown Party is one of many bootlegged collections. In any case, accrding to bobmarley.com[1], "Soul Shakedown Party" is one of the early Wailers songs that Leslie Kong released without permission from The Wailers. --Ezeu 14:42, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are a myriad of bootleg Bob Marley albums around, especially compilations of songs from The Wailers' era. I personally have a handful of CDs titled "Best of Marley" and the like, released in the early 1990s on obscure labels. I'd like to mention this one as well: http://www.compumusic.com/i174114.htm . The cd I have is called "It's Alright" Volume 1, © BCI Music 1995, licensed from San Juan Music Group, distributed by Brentwood Communications Inc. I had trouble finding the lyrics for some of the songs online, so I assume it's a lesser known one. Bob Marley & the Wailers have a very large discography and it is near impossible to list every album released.

Using Discogs as source (The Wailers, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Bob Marley) there have been massive amount of compilations and live albums released by various record labels over the years. The vast majority of these compilations are un-notable and were released by obscure labels. I think this discography page should only list "official" albums.

Although I am not 100% sure what is official and what is not I think the "official" albums are as follows: Studio One albums, Trojan Records albums, Island Records/Tuff Gong albums, JAD compilations and Heartbeat Records compilations. Providing there are no objections, I think the remainder of the albums should be classed as "unofficial" and should removed from the discography as they are not very notable and it would be too difficult to document them as a decent list. Singles[edit]

Yvette Acoustic Tape, Eleanor Rigby records[edit]

Hi, these records seem to be mentioned nowhere. They aren't very well known, but there are lots of raw-records of Bob Marley on these tapes, i dont know if you can buy it, but you can find it on the internet, look on youtube or this article for example:

Rasta Revolution---Not an album![edit]

Please move Rasta Revolution to the compilation section: that is a reissue of old soul rebel and soul revolution hits after the waliers had the first world success (Island pruduction distribution of the album catch a fire). Rasta Revolution, along with African Herbsman are Perry's (the 1970-71 producer) compilation made for only commercial porpouse...
