Untitled[edit]

Why would the line from "Roll Over Beethoven" be a "parody" of Blue Suede Shoes. I don't think it follows the definition of parody. Tribute, maybe. Copy, maybe. Parody?

Yeah, I don't see that reference as being a parody, either. More of a "shout out" if nothing else. 23skidoo 16:48, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

removal of topping all three billboard singles charts claim[edit]

According to the Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock & Roll, revised first edition, 1980, ISBN 0-394-73938-8, p. 65, Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes" peaked at #2 on the country and western and rhythm and blues charts, and #4 on the pop charts. According to the All Music Guide website, [1], the single peaked at #2 on the pop and rhythm and blues chart, topping the country and western chart. Obviously one source or both are in error, but until subsequent research reveals otherwise, the claim has been removed. Both of the above sources acknowledge "Don't Be Cruel" b/w "Hound Dog" as both sides having topped all three charts, that single being released six months later than the Perkins.PJtP 16:43, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

78 RPM[edit]

I took this out:

Two copies of the song on 78 rpm records arrived broken. Perkins soon discovered that the song was only available in the newer 7" microgrooved 45 rpm format.

I don't understand what this means. Two broken copies arrived where? What does that have to do with it only being available on 45? Why would Perkins "discover" it instead of just being told? In any event, it's not true; there's lots of 78s of "Blue Suede Shoes/Honey Don't" out there--I have one myself.—Chowbok 03:30, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, just say your note. I'm just repeating what is in the book. Can we sunstantiate that there are "lots" of 78s out there? Are they all original Sun issues? And what were the inital runs of the record like. Carl discovered that they were broken when he opened the package he received. If you can find reference for "lots of 78s", don't you think the new 45s are noteworthy? Steve Pastor (talk) 21:39, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A little clearer now, but it still sounds like a non sequitur. What does his having received broken 78s have to do with the 78s being unavailable? Are we suggesting that there were only two made, and they were both broken? Or that because that two broke, they stopped making them? If it "wasn't issued" on 78, then where did the broken ones come from, anyway?
Anyway, I don't have a reference that there were lots of them, but there must have been, because even today you can get them without much trouble. There's two on eBay right now (http://music.shop.ebay.com/Records-/306/i.html?Speed=78%2520RPM&_nkw=blue%20suede%20shoes&_catref=1&_dmpt=Music_on_Vinyl&_fln=1&_ipg=&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282), neither one terribly expensive. Besides, we say that it was "only" issued on 45, which simply is not true.—Chowbok 22:22, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, next time I'm at the library I'll look more closely at that part of the book. Maybe Phillips had commitments for all of the other 78s he had pressed in that first run, and could then only send Carl a 45? I'll look at the wording againSteve Pastor (talk) 20:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cash's Claim re Shoes[edit]

WorldCat knows of no such book. Also, a full reference would be really nice if this deleted item is to remain in the article. And, you can look at Cash: The Autobiography on Google Books, and Cash writes no such thing.Steve Pastor (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Asking again for a discussion regarding 12 bar blues, or is it 8[edit]

Buddy Holly fans ...[edit]

If you think Holly's version of the song was notable, it would be nice if you would put something in the article about. If it is tuly norable, there should be lots of references that you can find, and include in that new section about Holly's version. Unreferenced materials may be challenged and removed, is the stated policy for wikipedia articles. Steve Pastor (talk) 19:57, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"go, cat, go" lyric (Origin)[edit]

I found a citation that contradicts the current last sentence of the Origin section.

Sun's producer, Sam Phillips, suggested that the lyric "go cat go" be changed to "go man go", but the suggestion was not taken.[citation needed]

Given that the current sentence lacks a citation, I will edit according to the citation I found. A.T.S. in Texas (talk) 22:01, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
