BlueMotion strategy[edit]

Currently BlueMotion strategies focus on three areas of improvement: • engine • transmission • aerodynamics

I wanted to know what technologies make up "BlueMotion" – but this section needs some work. According to this article[1] and Volkswagen[2]: "the most important feature on a Bluemotion car is the engine": efficient TDi or TSi. For TDi this is assisted by longer gear ratios; new engine management software for reduced idling; improved diesel particulate filters. For TSi this is aided by a smaller, lighter engine; low-lag turbocharger. Plus additional features include: automatic start/stop; braking recuperation; DSG dual-clutch gearbox; low rolling-resistance tyres; improved aerodynamics. See also [3].

That's why I question "BlueMotion strategies focus on three areas" – seems very limited, should be expanded with a balanced weight to all the technologies. Amniarix (talk) 16:06, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

note re: 99g/km[edit]

I didn't want to clutter the thing up with too many references to the same cite in a short space, but one of the car's big selling points was that it managed under 100g/km (99, to be exact) and therefore was granted special eco car status in many parts of europe. EG no road tax and a london congestion charge exemption in the UK. It was only the higher trim pack that was 102, because it added a little extra weight and drag. The 99g figure, at least, is also referenced in the Telegraph citation I just added (for the newer 1.2L version) but can be found in enough other places too. It seems a bit odd giving supposedly encyclopaedic information for a past model car from what was at the time a preview article... though, I have just gone and done the same myself I suppose. 87.113.89.205 (talk) 13:40, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

gearboxes[edit]

Having just brought a Bluemotion Polio (old joke!), I'm getting some experience with the system and finding out about it. so I've a couple of edits to put in about the 2014 Europe models, which I'll incorporate shortly. But one query for the author of the section on the Brazil models : you say "and taller gearbox ratios," which doesn't scan properly to my (native-English) ears. Could you explain better what you mean - I suspect you mean "higher" ratios (fewer engine revs for each wheel rev), but I'm not sure.
