wild dubias[edit]

Anyone have any information about what dubia roaches are like in the wild rather than in captivity?... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tamtrible (talkcontribs) 22:31, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Common name "Dubia cockroach" made up?[edit]

While "Argentinian wood cockroach," "Guyana spotted cockroach" and "orange-spotted cockroach" and minor variants were clearly in use before this article existed, "dubia cockroach" seems to be a 2008 Wikipedia invention, perhaps based on the earlier Wikipedia article Cockroaches that seemed to invent the name "South American Dubia cockroach," or perhaps based on the occasional use of just "dubia" among breeders that arose in 2007 as short for B. dubia (e.g. "lots of dubia cheap").

However, the name is permeating scholarly articles, so it wouldn't be right to remove it now. A 2009 study apparently used all of the then-listed common names in Wikipedia (Dubia cockroach, South American Dubia cockroach, and Orange spotted roach), and recently several reports and scientific journals have simply parroted some or all of the now-listed common names from this article (e.g. "(commonly known as the Dubia cockroach, Guyana spotted cockroach, or Orange-spotted cockroach)" from this disertation or the same author's journal article).
